model 9 voters & election Practice Questions Answers Test with Solutions & More Shortcuts

Question : 6

In an election between two candidates, 75% of the voters cast their votes, out of which 2% votes were declared invalid. A candidate got 9261 votes which were 75% of the valid votes. The total number of voters enrolled in that election was

a) 16800

b) 16000

c) 18000

d) 16400

Answer: (a)

Let the total number of voters enrolled be x.

Number of votes polled = 75% of x = ${3x}/4$

Number of valid votes

= ${3x}/4 - 2/100 × {3x}/4 = {3x}/4 - {3x}/200$

= ${147x}/200$

Now, 75% of ${147x}/200 =9261$

or $3/4 of {147x}/200 = 9261$

or $x = {9261 × 4 × 200}/{3 × 147} = 16800$

Question : 7 [SSC Constable 2013]

In an election, three candidates contested. The first candidate got 40% votes and the second got 36% votes. If total number of votes polled were 36000, find the number of votes got by the 3rd candidate.

a) 9360

b) 8040

c) 9640

d) 8640

Answer: (d)

Vote percentage of third candidate = 100 – 40 – 36 = 24%

Votes got by third candidate = ${36000 × 24}/100$ = 8640

Question : 8

Two candidates contested in an election. One got 60% of the votes and won by 1600 votes. What is the number of votes polled ?

a) 10000

b) 9000

c) 7500

d) 8000

Answer: (d)

If the number of votes polled be x, then

${x × 20}/100 = 1600$

$x = {1600 × 100}/20 = 8000$

Using Rule 26,

If a candidate got A% votes in a poll and he won or defeated by 'x' votes, then, what was the total no. of votes which was cast in the poll?

∴ Total no. of votes = ${50 × x}/{50 - A}$

Total number of votes

= ${50 × 1600}/{50 - 60}$ = 8000

(–ve sign will be neglected)
