The prices of a school bag and a shoe are in the ratio 7 : 5. The price of a school bag is Rs.200 more than the price of a shoe. Then the price of a shoe is

7x – 5x = 200

2x = 200 ⇒ x = 100

The ratio of the number of boys and girls in a college is 3 : 2. If 20% of boys and 25% of girls are adults, the percentage of those students who are not adults, is

Let the number of boys and girls in the college be 3x and 2x respectively.

Number of minor boys = $3x × 80/100 = {12x}/5$

Number of minor girls = $2x × 75/100 = {3x}/2$

Total number of minor students = ${12x}/5 + {3x}/2$

= ${24x + 15x}/10 = {39x}/10 $

Required percentage = ${39x}/{10 × 5x} × 100$ = 78%

(As total students = 3x + 2x)

When 60% of a number is subtracted from another number, the second number reduces to its 52%; the ratio of the first number to the second number is :

Let the first number be x and second number be y.

y - ${60x}/100 = {52y}/100$

100y – 60x = 52y

48y = 60x
