  1. if only assumption I is implicit.
  2. if only assumption II is implicit.
  3. if either I or II is implicit.
  4. if neither I nor II is implicit.
  5. if both I and II are implicit.

Statement:
Consumer is the focal point of economic liberalisation, globalisation and reforms. Any manufacturing activity or service to succeed has to satisfy him.
Assumptions:
I. Very few companies are concerned with consumer satisfaction.
II. Consumer satisfaction is best investment in a competitive economy.

a) if only assumption I is implicit.

b) if only assumption II is implicit.

c) if either I or II is implicit.

d) if neither I nor II is implicit.

e) if both I and II are implicit.

Answer: (b)

II is definitely an assumption. But nothing about the policies of different companies can be found out from the statement.

Statement:
“I think illiterate and drunk drivers should not be employed, at least for children.”
— says X.
Assumptions:
I. Literacy helps in driving.
II. Children have a status equal to the adults.

a) if only assumption I is implicit.

b) if only assumption II is implicit.

c) if either I or II is implicit.

d) if neither I nor II is implicit.

e) if both I and II are implicit.

Answer: (a)

I is implicit: the proposal that drivers employed should not be illiterate has to be based on this assumption. II is not implicit. In fact, the assumption is just the contrary. The use of “at least for children” assumes that children are or should be privileged ones.

Prem wrote a second letter to Kamla because he did not get answer for the letter send by him last week..
Assumptions:
I. It may be Kamla was ill.
II. Generally we get letters in 15 days.

Answer: (d)

Both assumptions are not implicit because it is not clear that Kamla was ill or not. Also it is not clear that we can get letter in 15 days.

Assumptions:
I. The candidate does not read newspaper
II. Recent news are broadcast only on the radio.

a) if only assumption I is implicit.

b) if only assumption II is implicit.

c) if either I or II is implicit.

d) if neither I nor II is implicit.

e) if both I and II are implicit.

Answer: (d)

It doesn’t mean that the candidate listens to news on the radio, will not read newspaper or radio is not the only source of information (news).

So neither I nor II

Question : 25

Statement:
“Private property, trespassers will be prosecuted”- A notice on a plot of land
Assumptions:
I. The passerby may read the notice and may not trespass
II. The people are scared of prosecution

a) if only assumption I is implicit.

b) if only assumption II is implicit.

c) if either I or II is implicit.

d) if neither I nor II is implicit.

e) if both I and II are implicit.

Answer: (e)

Any notice is displayed assuming that people will read the notice and also follow the content of the notice.

So, I is implicit. Besides, the notice threatens any trespassers to be prosecuted.

So, II is also implicit
