Based On Two Assumptions MCQs Section 3 Practice Questions Answers Test with Solutions & More Shortcuts

DIRECTIONS:

In each question be low is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. An assumption is something supposed or taken for granted. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement.

Give your answer as;

  1. if only assumption I is implicit.
  2. if only assumption II is implicit.
  3. if either I or II is implicit.
  4. if neither I nor II is implicit.
  5. if both I and II are implicit.

Question : 46

Statement:
There were no tickets to this show. But entry was restricted.
Assumptions:
I. The organisers know who are to be allowed in the show.
II. There are ways possible other than that through tickets to restrict the entry in the show.

a) if only assumption I is implicit.

b) if only assumption II is implicit.

c) if either I or II is implicit.

d) if neither I nor II is implicit.

e) if both I and II are implicit.

Answer: (e)

Imposing tickets generally serves two purposes
— restricting unlimited entry and raising money. The latter has no use here. Now, in the statement, it is given that there were no tickets and entry was restricted, clearly indicates that both are implicit.

Question : 47

Statement:
Municipal Corporation has decided to ban the entry of vehicles form sub-urban areas to the main city through main routes during peak hours to avoid traffic congestion.
Assumptions:
I. The people of sub-urban areas should not bring their vehicles during peak hours.
II. There is no traffic congestion by the vehicles of people residing in the main city.

a) If only assumption I is implicit

b) If only assumption II is implicit

c) If either I or II is implicit

d) If neither I nor II is implicit

e) If both I and II are implicit.

Answer: (d)

Neither is implicit. I is not implicit as only main routes are banned, II is not implicit because it is not a root cause of the statement

Question : 48

Statement:
The traffic police department has put up huge notice boards at all the major junctions of the city, warning drivers to refrain from using cell phones while driving or else their licences will be impounded.
Assumptions:
I. The drivers of the vehicles may ignore the warning and continue using cell phones while driving.
II. The traffic police department may be able to nab most of the offenders and impound their licences.

a) if only assumption I is implicit.

b) if only assumption II is implicit.

c) if either I or II is implicit.

d) if neither I nor II is implicit.

e) if both I and II are implicit.

Answer: (d)

When a warning is given, it is assumed that it will be heeded to.

Hence I is implicit. II is not believed to be the motive behind a warning (even though the police often create such an impression among the people that they are seen as extortionists; well! Let that be on a lighter note.).

Question : 49

Statement:
Owing to urgent repair on a main line from the Wazirabad waterworks, water supply will be at low pressure on Thursday.
Assumptions:
I. Repair impedes water supply.
II. Water can be had even on low pressure.

a) if only assumption I is implicit.

b) if only assumption II is implicit.

c) if either I or II is implicit.

d) if neither I nor II is implicit.

e) if both I and II are implicit.

Answer: (e)

I is implicit because of the cause-effect relationship. II is also implicit because a thing cannot happen unless it is possible.

Question : 50

Statement:
In order to replenish the nutrients in the soil, it is important to grow different types of crops every alternate season.
Assumptions:
I.A crop can never be grown for the second time in the same field.
II.If a different crop is grown in the successive season, no additional nutrients such as fertilizers are required to be added to the soil.

a) if only assumption I is implicit.

b) if only assumption II is implicit.

c) if either I or II is implicit.

d) if neither I nor II is implicit.

e) if both I and II are implicit.

Answer: (d)

I is rather contrary to the assumption. The need to grow different types of crops is talked about precisely because there is a likelihood of farmers growing the same crop again and again unless instructed. Again, growing different type of crops is important but not sufficient.

Hence II is not implicit.
