CE = $√{BC^2 + BE^2}$ = $√{90^2 + 20^2}$

If a boy walks from C, meet D followed by B, A and then E, how many meters has he walked if he has travelled the straight distance all through?

Total distance walked by the boy.

= 40 + 50 + 60 + 80 = 230 m

Using of Pythagoras,

H2 = P2 + B2

H2 = (4)2 + (3)2 = 16 + 9 = 25

H2 = 25, H = 5 km (– 5 km can not possible)

Maya starts at point T, Walks straight to point U which is 4 ft away. She turns left at 90° and walks to W which is 4 ft away, turns 90° right and goes 3 ft to P, turns 90° right and walks 1 ft to Q, turns left at 90° and goes to V, which is 1 ft away and once again turns 90° right and goes to R, 3 ft away. What is the distance between T and R ?

a) 8 ft

b) 4 ft

d) 5 ft

Answer: (a)

The movements of Maya from T to R are as shown in Figure.

Distance between T and R

= TR = TU + UR

= TU + PW + QV

= (4 + 3 + 1)ft = 8 ft.
