Following is the situation of relations among the seven executives.
    (i) Y and A are not friendly.
    (ii) Z and C are not friendly.
    (iii) A and B are not friendly.

Clearly, Y and C can be selected along with X and B or D. So, I is false.

Z and B can be selected along with X or Y, and D. So, II is false.

Z and D can be selected along with X or Y, and  A or B. So, III is false.

If both Y and Z are selected, which of the executives must be on the team with them?

a) Both B and A

b) Both B and D

c) Both C and D

d) Only D

Answer: (b)

If Y and Z are selected, then by (i) and (ii), A and C cannot be selected.

Thus, the two junior executives in the team must be B and D.

Which of the following statements is/are true for X? I. X must be selected as one of the senior executives on the team. II. X must be selected, if C is selected. III. X cannot be selected, if both A and C are rejected.

Answer: (b)

Y and Z can also form a team with B and D. So, I is false.

If C is selected, then Z cannot be selected. So, the two senior executives in the team must be X and Y. So, II is true.

If both A and C are rejected, the two junior executives in the team must be B and D. And, B and D may have any two senior executives from amongst X, Y and Z. So, III is false.

Read the following information carefully to answer the given questions:

XYZ Ltd. Presently has three accounts assistants - A, B and C - and five accounts officers - D, E, F, G and H. Its management is planning to open a new office in another city using three accounts officers and two accounts assistants from its present staff. The following guidelines have been established to set up the new office:
    (i) A and C are constantly finding faults with each other and should not be sent as members of the same team.
    (ii) C and E function well alone but not as a team. They should not be sent as members of the same team.
    (iii) D and G do not enjoy good relation. They should not be sent as members of the same team.
    (iv) Since D and F have been completing for a promotion, they should not be sent as members of the same team.

If C and F are moved to the new office, then what is the number of different teams that can be formed?

Answer: (a)

If C is selected, A must not be selected. So, the second accounts assistant selected must be B. If C is selected, E cannot be selected.

If F is selected, D cannot be selected. So, the three accounts officers selected must be F, G and H.

Thus, only one team is formed - B, C, F, G, H.

Question : 30

If C is sent to the new office, then which member of the staff cannot go with C?

a) D

b) F

c) G

d) H

Answer: (a)

If C is selected, A cannot be selected. So, B must be selected. Now, if C is selected, E cannot be selected. So, three accounts officers have to be selected from amongst D, F, G and H.

But, if D is selected, neither F nor G can be selected. So, D cannot be selected and F, G, H must be selected.
