Question : 11 [O.B.C. (Clerk) 2011]

If A means ‘-’, B means '+', C means 'x', and D means '÷', then 32 D 4 B 7 C 2 A 6

a) 18

b) 24

c) 36

d) 16

e) 14

Answer: (d)

According to the question,

32 D 4 B 7 C 2 A 6

from the question by changing the alphabets, we get

= 32 ÷ 4 + 7 x 2 - 6 (using VBODMAS rule)

= 8 + 7 x 2 - 6

= 8 + 14 - 6

= 22 - 6 = 16

Question : 12 [P.N.B. (Clerk) 2010]

If K denotes ‘x', 'B' denotes ‘÷', ‘T’ denotes ‘-’ and 'M' denotes '+', then 40 B 8 T 6 M 3 K 4 = ?

a) 19

b) 11

c) -31

d) 23

e) None of these

Answer: (b)

According to the question,

 40 B 8 T 6 M 3 K 4 = ?

from the question by changing the alphabets, we get

 ⇒  40 ÷ 8 - 6 + 3 x 4 = ? (using VBODMAS rule)

⇒ 5 - 6 + 12 = ?

⇒ 17 - 6 = ?

Therefore ? = 11

Question : 13

If S means '-', Q means 'X', R means ‘÷’ and P means '+’, then 1 P 45 R 2 Q 2 S 4 = ?

a) 40

b) 42

c) 36

d) 46

e) 38

Answer: (b)

According to the question,

 1 P 45 R 2 Q 2 S 4

from the question by changing the alphabets, we get

= 1 + 45 ÷ 2 x 2 - 4 (using VBODMAS rule)

= 1 + 22.5 x 2 - 4

= 1 + 45 - 4 = 42

Question : 14 [Vijaya Bank (Clerk) 2010]

c) 39

d) 33

e) None of these

Answer: (b)

According to the question,

 6 % 12 © 3 @ 8 # 3 = ?

from the question by changing the alphabets, we get

 ⇒ 6 + 12 ÷ 3 x 8 - 3 = ? (using VBODMAS rule)

⇒ 6 + 4 x 8 - 3 = ?

⇒ 6 + 32 - 3 = ?

⇒ 38 - 3 = ?

Therefore ? = 35

Question : 15 [SSC (CGL) 2011]

If '-‘ stands for division '+' stands for subtraction ‘÷' stands for multiplication ‘x' stands for addition, then which one of the following equations is correct?

a) 70 – 2 + 4 ÷5 x 6 = 44

b) 70 - 2+ 4 ÷ 5 x 6 =21

c) 70 -2 + 4 ÷ 5 x 6 = 341

d) 70 – 2 + 4 ÷ 5 x 6= 36

Answer: (b)

- ⇒ ÷,  + ⇒ x, ÷ ⇒ x, - ⇒ +,

From option (a),

70 - 2 + 4 ÷ 5 x 6 = 44

⇒ 70 ÷ 2 - 4 x 5 + 6 = 44

⇒ 35 - 20 + 6 ≠ 44

From option (b),

70 - 2 + 4 ÷ 5 x 6 = 21

⇒ 70 ÷ 2 - 4 x 5 + 6 = 21

⇒ 35 - 20 + 6 = 21

⇒ 41 - 20 = 21

Therefore 21 = 21

As,we got our answer, there is no need to check option (c) & (d).
