Directions:
Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered (I) and (II) given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read both the statements and give answer
Question : 11
What is the percentage of families in the city have telephones?
(I) 50 % of the families of the city have televisions.
(II) 30% of the television owners of the city have telephones.
a) BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement alone is sufficient.
b) Statement (II) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (I) alone is not sufficient.
c) Statement(I) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (II) alone is not sufficient.
d) EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
Answer »Answer: (a)
Let total families in city = x
(I) ⇒ Families having television = $x/2$
(II) ⇒ Families having telephones = 30% of $x/2 = {3x}/{20}$
∴ Required % = ${3x\20}/x$ × 100
Hence, both statements together are necessary to answer the question.
Question : 12
What is the length of AB + CD ?
(I) AD = 30
(II) BC = 10
a) BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement alone is sufficient.
b) Statement (II) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (I) alone is not sufficient.
c) Statement(I) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (II) alone is not sufficient.
d) EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
Answer »Answer: (a)
Here, AD = AB + BC + CD
AB + CD = AD – BC
Hence, both the statements together are necessary to answer the question.
Question : 13
What percentage rate of simple interest per annum did Ashok pay to Sudhir ?
(I) Ashok borrowed Rs.8000 from Sudhir for four years.
(II) Ashok returned Rs.8800 to Sudhir at the end of two years and settled the loan.
a) BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement alone is sufficient.
b) Statement (II) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (I) alone is not sufficient.
c) Statement(I) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (II) alone is not sufficient.
d) EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
Answer »Answer: (a)
(I) gives P
(II) gives A and T
Now, since I = A – P and R = ${I × 100}/{P × T}$
Hence, both the statements together are sufficient to answer the question.
Question : 14
What is the average monthly income per family member?
(I) Each male earns Rs.1,250 a month and each female earns Rs.1,050 a month.
(II) Ratio of males to females in the family is 2 : 1
a) BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement alone is sufficient.
b) Statement (II) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (I) alone is not sufficient.
c) Statement(I) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (II) alone is not sufficient.
d) EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
Answer »Answer: (a)
(I) ⇒ M = 1,250 and F = 1,050
(II) ⇒ M : F = 2 : 1
Combining both the statements, we get
Average = ${2K × 1250 + K × 1050}/{3K}$
⇒ Both statements together are sufficient to answer the question.
Question : 15
What is the rate of simple interest per annum ?
(I) The sum triples in 20 years at simple interest.
(II) The difference between the sum and the simple interest earned after 10 years is Rs.1000.
a) BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement alone is sufficient.
b) Statement (II) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (I) alone is not sufficient.
c) Statement(I) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (II) alone is not sufficient.
d) EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
Answer »Answer: (c)
∵ I = ${P × R × T}/{100}$ = and Amount = P + I
(I) ⇒ Amount = 3P = P + I ⇒ I = 2P
∴ R = ${I × 100}/{P × T} = {2P × 100}/{P × 20}$ = 10%
(II) ⇒ P – I = 1000; here neither the sum nor interest is given.
∴ Hence, only statement I alone is sufficient.
