Let the numbers be
n – 2, n – 1, n, n + 1 and n + 2.
Their average = n.
Next two consecutive numbers are n + 3 and n + 4.
Therefore the average of 7 consecutive numbers
= ${(n - 2) + (n - 1) + n + (n + 1) + (n + 2) + (n + 3) + (n + 4)}/7$
= ${5n + 2n + 7}/7$ = n + 1
Out of 20 boys, 6 are each of 1 m 15 cm height, 8 are of 1 m 10 cm and rest of 1 m 12 cm. The average height of all of them is

Average height = ${6 × 1.15 + 8 × 1.10 + 6 × 1.12}/20$
⇒ $22.42/20$ = 1.121 or 1m 12.1cm
The average marks of 65 students in a class was calculated as 150. It was later realised that the marks of one of the students was calculated as 142, whereas his actual marks were 152. What is the actual average marks of the group of 65 students ? (Rounded off to two digits after decimal)

= ${65 × 150 + 152 - 142}/65$
= ${9750 + 10}/65$ = 150.15
The average monthly income of a family of four earning members was Rs. 15,130. One of the daughters in the family got married and left home, so the average monthly income of the family came down to Rs.14,660. What is the monthly income of the married daughter?

Monthly income of the married daughter
= 15130 × 4 – 14660 × 3
= 60520 – 43980= Rs. 16540
Sunil wants to spend Rs. 200 on two types of sweets, costing Rs. 7 and Rs. 10 respectively. What is the maximum number of sweets he can get so that no money is left over ?
Answer: (a)
Let the two types of sweets be x and y
ATQ 7x + 10y = 200
∴ it is possible when
7x is multiple of 10
i.e. 70 and 140 .....
7 × 10 + 10 × 13 = 200; 10 + 13 = 23
7 × 20 + 10 × 6 = 200; 20 + 6 = 26
Maximum sweet went x = 20 and y = 6
i.e. Total 26.
