Questions : If 50% of (x – y) = 30% of (x + y), then what per cent of x is y?

(a) 40%

(b) 400%

(c) 25%

(d) 33$1/3$%

The correct answers to the above question in:

Answer: (c)

50% of (x – y) = 30% of (x + y)

$1/2(x - y) = 3/10(x + y)$

$x/2 - {3x}/10 = {3y}/10 + y/2$

${5x – 3x}/10 ={3y + 5y}/10$

$x/5 = {4y}/5$ ⇒ x = 4y

$y = x/4 (or) x/4 ×100% = 25x$

Obviously, y is 25% of x
