Ten yrs ago, A was half of B in age. If the ratio of their present ages is 3 : 4, what will be the total of their present ages?

10 yrs ago, A was $1/2$ of B's ago.
AT present, A is $3/4$ of B's age.
∴ B's age = ${10(1/2 - 1)}/{1/2 - 3/4}$ yrs
A's age = $3/4$ of 20 = 15 yrs
Average of five numbers is 61. If the average of first and third number is 69 and the average of second and fourth number is 69, what is the fifth number ?
Answer: (b)
Let the five no. be $x_1, x_2, x_3, x_4, x_5$.
Average of 5 numbers = 61
${x_1 + x_2 + x_3 + x_4 + x_5}/5 = 61$
$x_1 + x_2 + x_3 + x_4 + x_5$ = 305
Now, ${x_1 + x_3}/2 = 69$
$x_1 + x_3$ = 138
${x_2 + x_4}/2$ = 69
$x_2 + x_4 = 138$
Now, $x_1 + x_3 + x_2 + x_4 + x_5$ = 305
138 + 138 + $x_5$ = 305
$x_5$ = 305 – 276
$x_5$ = 29
The average of 5 positive integers is 436. The average of the first two numbers is 344 and the average of the last two numbers is 554. What is the third number ?

Third number = (436 × 5) – (344 × 2 + 554 × 2)
= 2180 – 1796 = 384
The average monthly expenditure of a family was Rs. 2200 during the first 3 months; Rs. 2250 during the next 4 months and Rs. 3120 during the last 5 months of a year. If the total saving during the year were Rs. 1260, then the average monthly income was

Total annual income
= 3 × 2200 + 4 × 2250 + 5 × 3120 + 1260
= 6600 + 9000 + 15600 + 1260 = 32460
Average monthly income = $32460/12$ = Rs. 2705
In a class of 100 students, the average weight is 30 kg. If the average weight of the girls is 24 kg and that of the boys is 32 kg, then what is the number of girls in the class ?
Answer: (c)
By alligation,

So the number of girls will be = $1/4 × 100 = 25$
