Two trains leave New Delhi at the same time. One travels north at 60 kmph and the other travels south at 40 kmph. After how many hours will the trains, be 150 km apart ?
Answer: (a)
Since, both trains are moving in opposite directions, so relative speed of one train with respect to the other
= 60 – (– 40) = 100 km/hr
∴ Time = ${150}/{100} = 3/2$ = hr..
2 men and 1 woman can complete a piece of work in 14 days, while 4 women and 2 men can do the same work in 8 days. If a man gets Rs.90 per day, what should be the wages per day of a woman ?
Answer: (c)
$M_1D_1 = M_2D_2$
⇒(2M + 1W) × 14 = (4W + 2M) × 8
⇒28M + 14 W = 32 W + 16 M
⇒ 12M = 18
$M/W = {18}/{12} = 3/2$
Now, a man gets Rs.90 per day
∴ 1 woman wages = $2/3$ × (wages of 1 man)
= $2/3$ × 90 = Rs.60.
A can do a piece of work in 25 days B in 20 days. They work together for 5 days and then A goes away. In how many days will B finish the remaining work ?
Answer: (c)
(A + B)'s 5 days' work = 5 $(1/25 + 1/20) = {45}/{100} = 9/{20}$
Remaining work = $(1-{9/20}) = {11}/{20}$
${11}/{20}$ of the work would be finished by B in ${{11}/{20}}/{1/20}$ = 11 days.
If 3 men and 4 boys can do a piece of work in 8 days, then 6 men and 8 boys can do the same work in
Answer: (c)
3 men + 4 boys = 8 days, 6 men + 8 boys = ?
By formula, $M_1D_1 = M_2D_2$
⇒(3M + 4B) × 8 = (6M + 8B) × $D_2$
⇒(3M + 4B) × 8 = 2(3M + 4B) ×' $D_2$
⇒ $D_2 = {(3M + 4B) × 8}/{2 × (3M + 4B)}$ = 4 days
Consider the following statements :
I. If 18 men can earn Rs.1440 in 5 days, then 10 men can earn Rs.1280 in 6 days.
II. If 16 men can earn Rs.1120 in 7 days, then 21 men can earn Rs.800 in 4 days.
Which of the above statements is/are correct?
Answer: (d)
From statement I
${M_1d_1}/{W_a_1} = {M_2d_2}/{W_a_2}$
Here $M_1 = 18, d_1 = 5 W_a_1$ = 1440
$M_2 = 10, d_2 = 6, W_2_a$ = ?
⇒ ${18 × 5}/{1440} = {10 × 6}/{W_a_2}$
⇒$W_a_2 = {10 × 6 × 1440}/{18 × 5}$ = Rs.960
But $Wa_2$ is given as 1280 so it is not correct.
From statement II
${M_1d_1}/{W_a_1} = {M_2d_2}/{W_a_2}$
Here $M_1 = 16, d_1 =7, W_a_1$ = 1120
$M_2 = 21, d_2 = 4, W_a_2$ = ?
⇒${16 × 7}/{1120}$
= ${21 × 4}/{W_a_2}$
$W_a_2 = {21 × 4 × 1120}/{16 × 7}$ = 3 × 280
= Rs. 840
Now, $W_a_2$ = Rs.800
So both statements are not correct.
