A school has only four classes that contain 10,20,30 and 40 students respectively. The pass percentage of these classes are 20%, 30%, 60% and 100% respectively. Find the pass % of the entire school.
Answer: (d)
The number of pass candidates are 2 + 6 + 18 + 40
= 66 out of a total of 100. Hence, 66%
The ratio of the father’s age to the son’s age is 4 : 1. The product of their ages is 196. What will be the ratio of their ages after 5 years?
Answer: (b)
Let the ratio of proportionality be x, then
4x × x = 196 or, $4x^2$ = 196 or, x = 7
Thus, Father's age = 28 yrs, Son's age = 7 yrs
After 5 yrs, Father's age = 33 yrs.
Son's age = 12 yrs
∴ Ratio = 33 : 12 = 11 : 4
The average of five numbers is 57.8. The average of the first and the second numbers is 77.5 and the average of the fourth and fifth numbers is 46. What is the third number ?
Answer: (a)
3rd number = (5 × 57.8) – (2 × 77.5) – (2 × 46)
= 42
A cricketer has a certain average of 10 innings. In the eleventh inning he scored 108 runs, thereby increasing his average by 6 runs. What is his new average?
Answer: (b)
Let the cricketer's average be = x run per match
ATQ ${10x + 108}/11$ = x + 6
11x + 66 = 10x + 108
x = 42
New average = 42 + 6 = 48
The average age of a group of 16 persons is 28 yrs and 3 months. Two persons each 58 yrs old left the group. The average age of the remaining persons is
Answer: (a)
${16 × 28{1}/4 - 2 × 58}/14 = 24$
