In an examination it is required to get 296 of the total maximum aggregate marks to pass. A student gets 259 marks and is declared failed. The difference of marks obtained by the student and that required to pass is 5%. What are the maximum aggregate marks a student can get?

According to the question,
5% of max. marks = 296 – 259
∴ Max. marks = $3700/5$ = 740

In an election between two candidates, 75% of the voters cast their votes, out of which 2% of the votes were declared invalid. A candidate got 9261 votes which were 75% of total valid votes. Find the total number of votes enrolled in that election.

Let the total number of votes enrolled be x.
Then, Number of votes cast = 75% of x. Valid votes = 98% of (75% of x).
∴ 75% of [98% of (75% of x)] = 9261
$(75/100 × 98/100 × 75/100 × x)$ = 9261
$x = ({9261 × 100 × 100 × 100}/{75 × 98 × 75})$ = 16800.
A obtains 33$1/3$ % of the marks in a paper for which the maximum was 300. B is ahead of A by 40% of A’s marks, while C is ahead of B by two-ninths of his own marks. How many marks does C get?

A's marks = $300 × {33{1}/3}/100$ = 100.
B's marks = 100 × (1 + 40/100) = 140.
C is ahead of B by 2/9 of his own marks
i.e. 7/9 of C's marks = 140
C's marks = 140 × 9/7 = 180.
45% of a number is 255.6. What is 25% of that number?
Answer: (d)
According to the question,
∴ Number × $45/100 = 255.6$
or Number = $255.6 × 20/9$ = 568
∴ 25% of number = x × $25/100$
= 568 × $25/100$ = 142
