A starts 3 min after B for a place 4.5 km distant. B on reaching his destination, immediately returns back and after walking a km meets A. If A walks 1 km in 18 minutes then what is B's speed ?
Answer: (a)
A covers 3.5 km before he meets B
So, time taken for it is
(18 × 3.5 + 3) = 66 min = ${66}/{60} = {11}/{10}$h
Now, B covers a distance of 5.5 km in ${11}/{10}$ hours
B's speed = $d/t$
⇒ B's speed = ${11}/2 × {10}/{11}$ = 5km/h
Two pipes A and B can fill a tank in 15 and 12 hours respectively. Pipe B alone is kept open for $3/4$ of time and both pipes are kept open for remaining time. In how many hours, the tank will be full ?
Answer: (b)
Let the required time be x hours, then
$1/{12}(3/4 x) + 1/{15}(x - {3/4} x) + 1/{12} (x - {3/4} x) = 1$
⇒ $x/{16} + x/{60} + x/{48} = 1$
⇒ x = 10 hours
To complete a work, A takes 50% more time than B. If together they take 18 days to complete the work, how much time shall B take to do it?

If 7 spiders make 7 webs in 7 days, then 1 spider will make 1 web in how many days?
Answer: (b)
Let the required number of days be x. Then,
Less spiders, More days (Indirect Proportion)
Less webs, Less days (Direct Proportion)

| Webs | 7 : 1 |
∴ 1 × 7 × x = 7 × 1 × 7⇔x = 7
A and B walk around a circular track. They start at 8 a.m. from the same point in the opposite directions. A and B walk at a speed of 2 rounds per hour and 3 rounds per hour respectively. How many times shall they cross each other before 9 : 30 a.m. ?
Answer: (b)
Relative speed = (2 + 3) = 5 rounds per hour.
So, they cross each other 5 times in an hour and 2 times in half an hour.
Hence, they cross each other 7 times before 9 : 30 a.m.
