Sameer bought 10 kg of tea at Rs 45 per kg and 8 kg at Rs 50 per kg. He mixed both the brands and sold it at a total profit of Rs 32. What was the selling price per kg of the mixture ?
Answer: (b)
C. P. of mixture of 18 kg = 10 × 45 + 8 × 50 = Rs 850
∴ S. P. = C. P. + Profit = 850 + 32 = Rs 882
∴ S. P. = Rs 882 for 18 kg
∴ S. P. for 1 kg. = Rs ${882}/{18}$ = Rs49
The average marks of the students in our sections A, B, C and D together is 60%. The average marks of the students of A, B, C and D individually are 45%, 50%, 72% and 80% respectively. If the average marks of the students of sections A and B together is 48% and that of the students of B and C together is 60%. What is the ratio of number of students in sections A and D ?
Answer: (a)
Since the average marks of sections B and C together are equal the average marks of all the four sections (i.e., A, B, C and D), therefore the average marks of the remaining two sections A and D together will also be equal i.e., 60%.
Hence, the required ratio is 4 : 3.
If Rs. 2600 is divided among three persons A, B and C in the ratio $1/2 : 1/3 : 1/4$, , then how much does A get?
Answer: (d)
A's part = ${1/2}/{1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4}$ × 2600
= $1/2 × {12}/{13}$ × 2600 = Rs.1200
The ratio of number of ladies to gents at a party was 1 : 2, but when 2 ladies and 2 gents left, the ratio became 1 : 3. How many people were originally present at the party ?
Answer: (b)
Let number of ladies = x
and, number of gents = 2x
Now, ${x-2}/{2x-2} = {1/3}⇒3x = 6 = 2x -2 $
⇒x=4
∴ Total number of people originally present
= 4 + 8 = 12
If p% of Rs. x is equal to t times q% of Rs. y, then what is the ratio of x to y?
Answer: (b)
p% of x = t (q% of y)
⇒${xp}/{100} = {yq}/{100}$ × t
⇒$x/y = {qt}/p$
∴ x : y = qt : p
