Answer: (c)

Let the total sales be Rs. x.

Then, 5$1/2$ % of x + $1/2$% of (x – 10000) = 1990

$11/2 × 1/100 × x + 1/2 × 1/100 × (x - 10000) = 1990$

12x –10000 = 398000

12x = 408000 ⇒ x = 34000

In a co-education school there are 15 more girls than boys. If the number of girls is increased by 10% and the number of boys is also increased by 16%, there would be nine more girls than boys. What is the number of students in the school?

Answer: (d)

Let the number of boys be x.

Then, the number of girls = (x + 15)

New number of girls = (x + 15) × 1.1

New number of boys = x × 1.16

Then, 1.1(x + 15) = 1.16x + 9

⇒ 1.16x - 1.1x = 16.5 - 9 = 7.5

or 0.06x = 7.5 or $x = 7.5/0.06 = 125$

Number of boys = 125

Number of girls = 140

⇒ Number of students = 265

The number of children playing only table tennis is 40% of the total number of children and a total of 12 children play badminton and table tennis both. The number of girls playing only badminton is

Answer: (b)

Total Children = 85

Let, boys are x, then girls are (85 – x)

ATQ,

(85 – x) = $70/100 × x$

x = 50

Boys = 50 and Girls = 35

Now,

No. of boys playing badminton only 25

Total no. of boys playing badminton = 30

And, No. of children playing only table tennis = 34

Children play both badminton and table tennis are 12

Number of girls play both games = 12 – 5 = 7

Number of boys play only table tennis = 50 – 30 = 20

∴ Number of girls play only Table tennis = 34 – 20 = 14

and so, Number of girls play only badminton

= 35 – 14 – 7 = 14.
