ratio and proportion Model Questions & Answers, Practice Test for ssc cgl tier 1 2024

Question :1

If x : y = 1 : 3, y : z = 5 : k, z : t = 2 : 5 and t : x = 3 : 4, then what is the value of k?

Answer: (c)

Given, x : y = 1 : 3, y : z = 5 : k, z : t = 2 : 5

t : x = 3 : 4

$x/y × y/z × z/t × t/x$ = 1

⇒$1/3 × 5/k × 2/5 × 3/4 = 1⇒1/2$ = k

∴ k = $1/2$

Question :2

X bought 4 bottles of lemon juice and Y bought one bottle of orange juice. Orange juice per bottle costs twice the cost of lemon juice per bottle. Z bought nothing but contributed ' 50 for his share of the drink which they mixed together and shared the cost equally. If Z's '50 is covered from his share, then what is the cost of one bottle of orange juice?

Answer: (a)

Let, cost of lemon Juice bottle = x

cost of orange Juice bottle = 2x

ATQ, 4 bottle of lemon juice = 2 bottle of orange juice

Total bottle of orange juice bought = x + 2x = 3x

Now, Z's share = 50.

∴ cost of one bottle of orange juice = 50

Question :3

How many litres of pure alcohol must be added to 10 litres of mixture which is 15% alcohol to make a mixture which will be 25% alcohol ?

Answer: (d)

By the rule of alligation,

Alcohol concentration :

ratio-and-proportion-aptitude-mcq

∴ Alcohol must be added in the ratio of 10 : 75 or 2 : 15

∴ Quantity of alcohol to be added in 10 litres

= ${2}/{15} × 10 = {4/3}$

Question :4

In a partnership between A, B and C, A's capital is Rs 4,000. If in a profit of Rs 800. A's share is Rs 200 and C's share is Rs 100, then B's capital is :

Answer: (b)

Let B's capital is x and C's capital is y.

∴ A's profit = 200 = ${4000}/{4000 + x + y}$ × 800 …(i)

and C's profit = 100 = ${y}/{4000 + x + y}$ × 800 … (ii)

(i) ÷ (ii)⇒2=${4000}/{y}$⇒y = Rs 2000

∴ x = Rs 10,000

Alternate method : share of B = 800 – (200 + 100)

= 500

then ratio of profit share = 2 : 5 : 1

= ratio of investment

A's share is Rs 4000

∴ B's share

= 5 × 2,000

= 10, 000

Question :5

Two equal glasses filled with mixtures of alcohol and water in the proportions of 2 : 1 and 1 : 1 respectively were emptied into third glass. What is the proportion of alcohol and water in the third glass ?

Answer: (a)

Alcohol in 1st glass = $2/3$; water in 1st glass = $1/3$

Alcohol in 2nd glass = $1/2$ ; water in 2nd glass = $1/2$

∴ In 3rd glass,

Alcohol = ${2/3} + {1/2} = {7/6}$; water = ${1/3} + {1/2} = {5/6}$

∴ Required ratio = ${7/6} : {5/6}$ = 7 : 5
