A man takes 6 hrs 30 min in walking to a certain place and riding back. He would have gained 2 hrs 10 min by riding both ways. How long would he take to walk both ways?

Answer: (a)

Walking + Riding = 6 hrs 30 min ……(1)

2 Riding = 6 hrs 30 min – 2 hrs 10 min

= 4 hrs 20 min ……(2)

Solving the above two relations (equations);

2 × (1) – (2) gives

2 walking = 13 hrs – 4 hrs 20 min = 8 hrs 40 minutes

My mother left for Nasik from Pune at 5.20 AM. She travelled at the speed of 50 km/hr for 2 hour 15 minutes. After that the speed was reduced to 60 km/hr. If the distance between two cities is 350 km, at what time did she reach Nasik?

In covering a certain distance, the speeds of A and B are in the ratio of 3 : 4. A takes 30 minutes more than B to reach the destination. The time taken by 'A' to reach the destination is

Let B takes x H

then A takes ${(x+1/2)}H$

∴ ${(x+1/2)}3=x × 4$

6×+3=8x

2x=3

x = $3/2$

∴ A takes=$3/2+1/2$

= 2 Hrs.

Excluding the stoppages, the speed of a bus is 64 km/hr and including the stoppages the speed of the bus is 48 km/hr. For how many minutes does the bus stop per hour?

Answer: (a)

Stoppage minutes per hour

= ${(64-48)×60}/64$ = 15 minutes.

A car travelling with $5/7$ of its actual speed covers 42 km in 1 hr 40 min 48 sec. The actual speed of car is

Answer: (b)

Let actual speed = x

∴ ${5/7}x×6048/3600=42$

$x={42×7×3600}/{5×6048}$

x = 35 km/h
