The difference between 89% of a number and 73% of the same number is 448. What is 49% of that number ?
Answer: (a)
(89 – 73)% of x = 448
Number = ${448 × 100}/16 = 2800$
49% of 2800 = ${2800 × 49}/100 = 1372$
A team played 40 games in a season a won in 24 of them. What percent of games played did the team win?
Answer: (c)
Win percentage = $24/40$ × 100 = 60%
In a certain year, the population of a certain town was 9000. If in the next year the population of males increases by 5% and that of the females by 8% and the total population increases to 9600, then what was the ratio of population of males and females in that given year?
Answer: (b)
Let the population of males = x; then the population of females = 9000 – x
Now, 5% of x + 8% of (9000 – x)
= (9600 – 9000 ) = 600
or 0.05 x + 720 – 0.08x = 600
or 720 – 600 = 0.08x – 0.05x
or, 120 = 0.03x
x = 4000
Reqd. ratio of population of males and females
= $4000/{9000 - 4000} = 4000/5000 = 4 : 5$
(18% of 250 + 25% of 144) of ? = 54

$(250 × 18/100 + 144 × 25/100)$ of ? = 54
(45 + 36) of ? = 54
81 × ? = 54
? = $54/81 = 2/3$
In a college 12% of total students are interested in sports. $3/4$ th of total students are interested in dance. 10% of total students are interested in singing and remaining 15 students are not interested in any activity. How many students are there in the college ?
Answer: (b)
Suppose total student = 100
interested in playing = 100 × 12% = 12 students
interested in dancing = 100 × $3/4$ = 75 students
interested in singing = 100 × 10% = 10 students
Remaining = 100 – (12 + 75 + 10) = 3 students
Whereas remaining = 15 students
∴ Total students = $100/3 × 15$ = 500
