x, y and z are three numbers such that x is 30% of z and y is 40% of z. If x is p% of y, then what is the value of p ?

x = 30% of z = 30z/100 = 3z/10
y = 40% of z = 40z/100 = 4z/10
According to the question,
x = p% × y
p = $x/y × 100 = {{3z}/10}/{{4z}/100} × 100$
= ${3z}/{4z} × 100 = 3/4 × 100 = 75%$
The wheat sold by a grocer contained 10% low quality wheat. What quantity of good quality wheat should be added to 150 kgs of wheat so that the percentage of low quality wheat becomes 5%?
Answer: (b)
Weight of low quality of wheat in 150 kgs of wheat
= ${150 × 10}/100$ = 15 kg.
Suppose that x kgs of good quality wheat is mixed.
According to the question,
${(x + 150) × 5}/100$ = 15 or, x = 150 kg.
The population of a town is 126800. It increases by 15% in the 1st year and decreases by 20% in the 2nd year. What is the population of the town at the end of 2 years?
Answer: (b)
Population at the end of 2nd year
= 126800 × $(1 + 15/100) × (1 - 20/100)$
= $126800 × 115/100 × 80/100$ =116656
The sum of 15% of a positive number and 10% of the same number is 70. What is twice of that number ?
Answer: (b)
Let the number be x
15% of x + 10% of x = 70
25% of x = 70
$x = 70 × 100/25 = 280$
Twice of that number = 280 × 2 = 560
Sum of 3 consecutive numbers is 2262. What is 41% of the highest number ?
Answer: (e)
x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 2262
3x + 3 = 2262
3x = 2262 – 3 = 2259
$x = 2259/3$ = 753
Highest number = 753 + 2 = 755
41% of 755 = 309.55
