A sum of money is to be divided equally amongst P, Q and R in the respective ratio of 5:6:7 and another sum of money is to divided between S and T equally. If S got Rs. 2,100 less than P, how much amount did Q receive?

The ratio of two numbers is 4 : 7. If each of these numbers increases by 30, their ratio will become 5 : 8 . What is the average of these two numbers?
Answer: (d)
Let the numbers be x and y.
∴ $x/y = 4/7$
∴ 7x=4y .......(a)
${x+30}/{y+30} = 5/8$
∴8x – 5y = – 90 ...(b)
From eqn (b), 32x – 20y = – 360
From eqn (a), 35x = 20y
∴ 32x – 35x = -360
∴ x = ${360}/3$ = 120
y = 210
∴ Avg = ${330}/2$ = 165
If A : B : C = 2 : 3 : 4, then $A/B : B/C : C/A$ is equal to
Answer: (d)
Let A = 2x, B = 3x and C = 4x. Then $A/B = {2x}/{3x} = 2/3$,
$B/C={3x}/{4x} = 3/4 and C/A = {4x}/{2x} = 2/1$
⇒$A/B:B/C:C/A = 2/3:3/4:2/1$ = 8 : 9 : 24
Fresh grapes contain 80 per cent water while dry grapes contain 10 per cent water. If the weight of dry grapes is 250 kg then what was its total weight when it was fresh ?
Answer: (c)
Weight of dry grapes without water = 250 × ${90}/{100}$ = 225 kg
Let weight of fresh grapes be x kg.
According to question,
x × ${20}/{100} = 225⇒x = {225 × 100}/{20}$ = 1125 kg
The ratio of the present ages of Sushma and Karishma is 6:7 respectively. The ratio of their ages 8 years hence would be 8:9 respectively. What would be the respective ratio of their ages after 12 years ?
Answer: (b)
Let the present ages of Sushama and Karishma be 6x and 7x respectively.
∴ ${6x+8}/{7x+8}=8/9$
or 56x+64=54x+72
x=$8/2$=4
Required ratio = ${6×4+12}/{7×4+12}=36/40$ = 9 : 10
