The following question based on statement & assumptions topic of verbal reasoning
Take this ‘oven’ home and you can prepare very tasty dishes which you were unable to prepare earlier. - An advertisement of X brand oven.

(b) if only assumption II is implicit.
(c) if either I or II is implicit.
(d) if neither I nor II is implicit.
e) if both I and II are implicit.
The correct answers to the above question in:
Answer: (a)
The term ‘which you were unable to prepare earlier’ clearly means even though the user knows the procedure of some special preparation, he does not have a proper oven to cook.
Hence I is implicit. The statement assumes that ‘X’ can cook tasty dishes but does not rule out all other ovens from doing so.

b) if only assumption II is implicit.
c) if either I or II is implicit.
d) if neither I nor II is implicit.

Question : 3
Statement:
A chariot is made of wheels, horses etc. But none of these parts is the chariot itself.
Assumptions:
I. A chariot is an incomplete construction.
II. Parts can never substitute the whole.
a) if only assumption I is implicit.
b) if only assumption II is implicit.
c) if either I or II is implicit.
d) if neither I nor II is implicit.
e) if both I and II are implicit.
Answer »Answer: (b)
The crux of the statement is that although the wheels, horses etc. make up the chariot, they are not the chariot. In other words, parts can never substitute for the whole. So II is implicit. I is not hinted at in the statement.

I is not implicit because we can’t say with certainty that Miss ‘X’ assumes her life to be full of prosperity and the prosperity in her life came only after the death of her father. II may or may not be the true reason behind the reluctance of her father.
Hence, II is also not implicit.
Question : 6

The principal instructed all the teachers to be careful in class because some students may disturb other students

II. The students will welcome the decision of the Principal.
a) if only assumption I is implicit.
b) if only assumption II is implicit.
c) if either I or II is implicit.
d) if neither I nor II is implicit.
e) if both I and II are implicit.
Answer »Answer: (e)
Clearly, teachers have been instructed to maintain discipline in the class and point out the naughty students who do not let other students study.
So, I is implicit. Besides, the implementation of the instructions would surely help good students to concentrate on their studies and ensure a good working atmosphere in the class.
So, II is also implicit
