Question : 1
- Statement:
- The employees' association has appealed to the Managers of Company Z to introduce written examinations for clerical cadre recruitment to prevent selection of incompetent persons.
- Assumptions:
- I. So far the Company Z used to select candidates without conducting a written examination.
- II. A written examination can help to identify competent persons.
- III. At a higher level, written examination may not be of much use.
a) Only I and II are implicit
b) Only II and III are implicit
c) Only I and III are implicit
d) Only III is implicit
e) None of these
Answer »Answer: (a)
An appeal has been made to ‘introduce’ written examination. This means that so far written examination was not conducted.
So, I is implicit. II follows directly from the statement and so it is implicit. However, nothing can be deduced about the mode of selection at a higher level.
So, III is not implicit.
Question : 2
- Statement:
- In spite of the heavy rains the traffic has not been disrupted this year
- Assumptions:
- I. The traffic is disrupted in rainy seasons only.
- II. Rains do not affect traffic movement.
- III. Adequate precautions were taken for traffic management during the rainy season.
a) Only I is implicit
b) Only I and II are implicit
c) Only III is implicit
d) Only II and III are implicit
e) None is implicit
Answer »Answer: (c)
The statement expresses surprise at the traffic situation remaining normal even after rains. This means that rains affect traffic.
So, II is not implicit. But this does not mean that only rains affect traffic.
So, I is also not implicit. Since the traffic was not affected during rains as expected, so III is implicit.
Question : 3
- Statement:
- Keeping in view the financial constraints, the management institution has decided to charge at the time of providing employment in various organisations, a placement fee of Rs. 25000 from the organisations in which the student will be provided with the employment.
- Assumptions:
- I. It will help in increasing the demand of the students belonging to the management institution.
- II. The amount collected in this way will be purposeful.
- III. It may be possible that the organisation providing employment may select less number of students in future.
a) None is implicit
b) Only I is implicit
c) Only I and II are implicit
d) Only II and III are implicit
e) None of these
Answer »Answer: (d)
Since the management has imposed a fee of Rs. 25000 for the employment of each student by the organization, so III is implicit while I is not.
Since the statement mentions that the fee is being charged to cover up the financial constraint, so II is implicit.
Directions:
In each question below is given a statement followed by three Assumptions I, II and III. An assumption is something supposed or taken for granted. You have to consider the statement and the following assumption(s) is/are implicit in the statement.Question : 4
- Statement:
- The airlines have requested all their bonafide passengers to check the status of flight operations before leaving their homes as the heavy fog is causing immense problems to normal flight operations.
- Which of the following assumption(s) is/are implicit in the above statement?
- Assumptions:
- I. Majority of the air passengers may check the flights status before starting their journey to the airport.
- II. The Government may take serious objection to the notice issued by the airline company.
- III. Majority of the passengers may cancel their tickets and postpone their journey till the situation become normal.
a) None is implicit
b) Only I is implicit
c) Only II is implicit
d) Only III is implicit
e) I and III are implicit
Answer »Answer: (b)
To make the request meaningful I must be a valid assumption.
Hence, Assumption I is implicit. In the case of II, the Government is out of the picture.
Hence, Assumption II is not implicit.
Assumption III also invalid as the case may be only of delay, not of cancellation of the flight.
Question : 5
- Statement:

- Which of the following assumption (s) is/are implicit in the above statement?
- Assumptions:
- I. An adequate number of private entities may not respond to the Government's auction notification.
- II. Many private entities in the country are capable of constructing highways within a reasonable time.
- III. The Government's proposal of build-operate-transfer may financially benefit the private entities.
a) I and II are implicit
b) II and III are implicit
c) Only II is implicit
d) I and III are implicit
e) None of the above
Answer »Answer: (b)
The decision to auction assumes a response to it.
Hence, Assumption I is not implicit.
Assumption II is implicit as unless the private entities are capable, the decision would make no sense.
Further, without financial benefit, private entities would not turn up for the auction.
Hence, Assumption III is implicit.
