Question : 43 [sbi-clerk-prelims-2020]

The ratio of the ages of Ram and Rahim 10 years ago was 1 : 3. The ratio of their ages five years hence will be 2 : 3. Then, the ratio of their present ages is :

a) 1 : 2

b) 3 : 5

c) 3 : 4

d) 2 : 5

e) None of these

Answer: (b)

Let 10 years ago, ages of Ram and Rahim were x years and 3x years, respectively.

Then, present age of Ram = (x + 10)

and present age of Rahim = (3x + 10)

According to the question,

$\text"x+10+5"/\text"3x+10+5" = 2/3$

⇒ 3x + 45 = 6x + 30

⇒ 3x = 15

∴ x = 5

Hence, required ratio = $\text"5+10"/\text"3×5+10"$

= $15/25$

= 3 : 5

= 18 sec
