The curved surface area of a right circular cone of radius 14 cm is 440 sq cm. What is the slant height of the cone?

Answer: (b)

Curved surface area of right circular cone = π r l

∴ 440 = ${22}/7$ × 14 × l

⇒ l = ${440 × 7}/{22 × 14}$ = 10 cm

What are the dimensions (length, breadth and height, respectively) of a cuboid with volume 720 cu cm, surface area 484 sq cm and the area of the base 72 sq cm?

Answer: (b)

Volume of the cuboid = 720 $cm^3$

Height of the cuboid = ${\text"Volume of the cuboid"}/{\text"Base area of the cuboid"}$

= ${lbh}/{lb} = {720}/{72}$ = 10 cm

Surface area of cuboid = 2(lb + bh + hl)

484 = 2 (72 + 10 (l + b))

484 – 144 = 20(l + b)

${340}/{20}$ = (l + b) ⇒ 17 = l + b

By checking options, we get option (b) is the correct dimensions of the cuboid.

2 cm of rain has fallen on a sq. km of land. Assuming that 50% of the raindrops could have been collected and contained in a pool having a 100 m × 10 m base, by what level would the water level in the pool have increased ?

Answer: (a)

Volume of rain that is to be collected in a pool

= 2 × 1 × $10^{10} × 1/2$

(∴ sq. km = $10^{10} cm^2$)

= $10^{10} cm^3 = 10^4 meter^3$

Volume of Pool = L × B × h

$10^4$ = 100 × 10 × h

h = ${10^4}/{100 × 10}$ = 10m

1. There exists a regular polygon whose exterior angle is 70°.
2. Let n ≥ 5. Then the exterior angle of any regular polygon of n sides is acute.
Which of the above statements is/are correct?

Answer: (c)

(1) If Exterior angle = 70°

then no. of sides = ${360°}/{70}$ = 5.14

which is not possible

Because side of polygon does not exist in decimals (1) is not true.

Statement (2) Let n ≥ 5

Let n = 5

Exterior angle = ${360°}/5$ = 72°

An exterior angle of any regular polygon of n sides is acute.

(2) is true.

∴ Option (c) is correct.

In the figure given above, O is the centre of the circumcircle of the ΔXYZ. Tangents at X and Y intersect at T. If ∠XTY = 80°, then what is the value of ∠ZXY?

Answer: (d)

Since, XT = YT

∴ ∠TXY = ∠TYX = 50°

Also, OX is perpendicular to XT.

∴ ∠OXT = 90°

∴ ∠OXY = 90° – 50° = 40°

Also, OM is perpendicular to ZY.

In ΔXMY, ∠MXY + ∠XYM + ∠XMY = 180°

∴ 40° + ∠XYM + 90° = 180°

⇒ ∠XYM = 50°

Also, by property of circle,

∠TXY = ∠XZY = 50°

In ΔXYZ, ∠X + ∠Y + ∠Z = 180°

∴ ∠X = 180° – 50° – 50° = 80°
