Sonali invests 15% of her monthly salary in insurance policies. She spends 55% of her monthly salary in shopping and on household expenses. She saves the remaining amount of Rs.12,750. What is Sonali's monthly income?

Answer: (c)

Percentage saving of Sonali

= 100 – (15 + 55) = 30%

Let her monthly income be x

$x × 30/100 = 12750$

$x = 12750 × 100/30 = 42,500$

Question :17

A machine depreciates in value each year at the rate of 10% of its previous value. However, every second year there is some maintenance work so that in that particular year, depreciation is only 5% of its previous value. If at the end of the fourth year, the value of the machine stands at Rs. 1, 46, 205, then find the value of machine at the start of the first year.

Answer: (a)

Solve using options. Checking for option (b), gives us:

200000 → 180000 → 171000 → 153900 → 146205

(by consecutively decreasing 200000 by 10% and 5% alternately)

137% of 12345 = ?

Answer: (c)

? ≈ 140% of 12300 = ${140 × 12300}/100$

= 17220 ≈ 17000

Question :19

A man losses 20% of his money. After spending 25% of the remaining, he has Rs.480 left. What is the amount of money he originally had?

Answer: (c)

Let man has originally Rs. x

After 20% loss = ${x × 80}/100 = {8x}/10$

After spending 25% = ${8x}/10 × 75/100 = {8x}/10 × 3/4$

According to the question,

${8x}/10 × 3/4$ = 480

8x × 3 = 480 × 4 × 10

$x = {480 × 4 × 10}/{8 × 3} = 800$

Question :20

Chintu is given a quadratic equation $ax^2 + bx + c$ = 0 and is asked to make another quadratic equation from this with a = 1. Also one root of the second quadratic equation is same as one of the roots of the first equation but opposite in sign and the other root of the second equation is two times the second root of the first equation. Find the percentage change in the constant term of the second equation as compared to the first equation?

Answer: (a)

Let the equation be

$x^2 - 2x + 1 = 0$ ...(1)

and $x^2 - x - 2 = 0$ ...(2)

Required percentage = ${1 - (- 2)}/1 × 100$ = 300%
