The average age of the family of five members is 24. If the present age of youngest member is 8 yr, then what was the average age of the family at the time of the birth of the youngest member ?

Total age of the family of five members
= 24 × 5 = 120
Total age of the family of five members before 8 years
= 120 - 5 × 8 = 120 - 40 = 80
So, Required average age = $80/5$ = 16yr
The marks obtained by Hare Rama in Mathematics, English and Biology are respectively 93 out of 100, 78 out of 150 and 177 out of 200. Find his average score in percent.

His total score is 93 + 78 + 177
= 348 out of 450% score = 77.33.
P is going to Delhi from Gurgaon by his car at a speed of 40 km/h. While coming back, he returns with a speed of x km/h. What should be the value of x so that his average speed during the entire journey is 80 km/h?

$80 = {2 × x × 40}/{40 + x}$

Sum of 20 numbers when 61 is replace by 16
⇒ 700 - 61 + 16 = 655
Correct average of 20 numbers = $655/20$ = 32.75
Ram’s present age is three times his son’s present age and two-fifth of his father’s present age. The average of the present ages of all of them is 46 years. What is the difference between the Ram’s son’s present age and Ram’s father’s present age?

Suppose age of Ram = R
his son's age = S
and his father's age = F
According to question,
S = $R/3$ and $R = F × 2/5$
∴ F = ${5R}/2$ and ${R + S + F}/3$ = 46
R + S + F = 46 × 3
$R + R/3 + {5R}/2 = 138$
R = 36
S = $36/3 = 12$
F = ${5 × 36}/2 = 90$
