It is given on August 20, the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, which is celebrated as Sadbhavna Diwas (Harmony Day). The 1996 winner of this award was Lata Mangeshkar, followed by Sunil Dutti in 1998; Kapila Vatsayan in 2000, etc.
