Questions : 3 truck drivers went to roadside cafe. 1st purchased 4 sandwiches, 1 coffee, 10 biscuits and paid Rs. 1.69. 2nd purchased 3 sandwiches, 1 coffee, 7 biscuits and paid Rs. 1.26. What did 3rd truck driver pay for a sandwich, a cup of coffee, and one biscuit ?

(a) 68 paise

(b) 35 paise

(c) 89 paise

(d) 40 paise

The correct answers to the above question in:

Answer: (d)

4x + 10 y = 1.69 ...(i)

3x + 7y = 1.26 ...(ii)

12x + 30y = 5.07

12x + 28y = 5.04

2y = 0.03

∴ y = ${0.03}/2$ .015

Putting the value of y in eqn. (i)

4x + 10 × 0.015 = 1.69

4x = 1.69 – 0.15 = 1.54

∴ x = ${1.54}/4$ = 0.385

1 × 0.385 + 0.015

= 0.385 + 0.015 = 0.400

= 40 paise
