If the numerator of a fraction is increased by 500% and the denominator is increased by 300%, the resultant fraction is 2${4}/7$. What was the original fraction?

Answer: (a)

Let the original fraction be $x/y$.

Then, ${x + 5x}/{y + 3y} = 2{4}/7$

⇒ ${6x}/{4y} = 18/7$

⇒ $x/y = 72/42 = 12/7$

The number of employees in Companies A, B and C are it i ratio of 4 : 5 : 6 respectively. If the number of employees m the Companies is increased by 25%, 30% and 50% respectively, what will be the new ratio of employees working in Companies A, B and C respectively?

Answer: (e)

New Ratio = [4 × 125% : 5 × 130% : 6 × 150%]

= (5 : 6.5 : 9) × 2 = 10 : 13 : 18

Question :18

The difference between 75% of a number and 20% of the same number is 378.4. What is 40% of that number ?

Answer: (c)

Let the number be x.

${75x}/100 - {20x}/100 = 378.4$

or, $x = {378.4 × 100}/55$

${40x}/100 = {378.4 × 100}/55 × 40/100 = 275.2$

An index of 12 shares contains, among others, the shares of Reliance, HLL and Infosys with weightage of 7%, 13% and 15% respectively. What is the increase in the prices of other shares, if these three rise by 9%, 10% and 4% respectively, while the index rises by 6%?

Answer: (c)

Let the value of Index = 100

Value of Reliance share = 7

Value of HLL = 13

Value of Infosys = 15

Value of remaining = 65

New value of Reliance = 7.63

New value of HLL = 14.3

New value of Infosys = 15.60

New value of remaining = 68.47

Hence, required percentage

= $3.47/65 × 100$ = 5.34%

Question :20

In an examination, Mohit obtained 20% more than Sushant but 10% less than Rajesh. If the marks obtained by Sushant are 1080, find percentage marks obtained by Rajesh if the full marks are 2000.

Answer: (c)

Let x% marks obtained by Rajesh.

Given: Sushant's marks = 1080.

Mohit's Marks = 1080 + 1080 × $1/5$ = 1296 …(1)

Also , Mohit's marks = $x - x/10 = {9x}/10$ …(2)

From (1) and (2),we have,

${9x}/10 = 1296$ ⇒ x = 1440.

But given full marks are 2000

∴ x% = $1440/2000$ = 72%.
