Question :11

A volcanic crater (conical) has a base diameter 125 m and is 10 m deep. It rains very heavily and the crater gets filled up in 4 hours. Find the rate of water flow in the crater.

Answer: (b)

Volume of the cone = $1/3 × π R^2 H = 1635.4 m^3$

⇒ Rate of water flow = ${1635.4}/4 = 408m^3$/hr

or 408000 litres/hour

Question :12

A jogger running at 9 kmph alongside a railway track is 240 metres ahead of the engine of a 120 metre long train running at 45 kmph in the same direction. In how much time will the train pass the jogger ?

Answer: (b)

Speed of train relative to jogger

= (45 – 9) km/h = 36 km/h

= $(36 × 5/{18})$ m/sec = 10 m/sec.

Distance to be covered = (240 + 120) m = 360 m.

∴ Time taken = $({360}/{10})$ sec = 36 sec.

Question :13

20 workers working for 5 h per day complete a work in 10 days. if 25 workers are employed to work 10 h per day, what is the time required to complete the work ?

Answer: (b)

$M_1 D_1 T_1 = M_2 D_2 T_2$

Here $M_1 = 20 , D_1 = 10, T_1 = 5h, M_2 = 25, D_2$

= ?, $T_2$ = 10 h

⇒20 × 10 × 5 = 25 × $D_2$ × 10

∴ $D_2 = {20 × 10 × 5}/{25 × 10}$ = 4 days

Question :14

A train covered a certain distance at a uniform speed. If the train had been 6 km/h faster, then it would have taken 4 hours less than the scheduled time. And, if the train were slower by 6 km/h, then the train would have taken 6 hours more than the scheduled time. The length of the journey is

Answer: (b)

Let the length of the journey be x km.

Suppose speed of the train be y km/h.

∴ Time taken to cover x km = $x/y$ hours

∴ $x/{y + 6} = x/y - 4, x/{y - 6} = x/y + 6$

Solving these equations, we get

y = 30, x = 720.

∴ Length of the journey = 720 km.

Question :15

A and B working together can finish a piece of work in 12 days while B alone can finish it in 30 days. In how many days can A alone finish the work?

Answer: (c)

A and B together can do in = 12 days

B alone can do in = 30 days

A can do in

= $1/{12} - 1/{30} = 3/{60} = 1/{20}$ i.e. 20 days
