Rohit assured Sunita that he would look at her work while she was on leave.

Question :19

You can't go that way, I'm afraid, as the road is in repairs.

Answer: (a)

'Repair' (n.), means 'restoration after deterioration'. 'Under repair' means 'under restoration work'.

Question :20

I would have waited for you at the station if I knew that you would come.

Answer: (c)

The use of past perfect is necessary here because we are talking about an action that precedes another action in the past. 'My knowing' that you would or would not come ('if I had known') precedes 'my not waiting' for you. The choice of simple past or past perfect is difficult for many. Increasingly, in common usage, the difference is being overlooked. See the examples below. The teacher had begun the class when the student walked in. The teacher began the class when the student walked in. In the first sentence, the teacher had already begun the class by the time the student walked in. In the second, the teacher started the class at the time the student walked in.
