The following question based on average topic of quantitative aptitude
(a) 24
(b) 23
(c) 22
(d) 21
The correct answers to the above question in:
Answer: (d)
Total members in the group = x
Non–senior members = x – 7
According to the question,
16000x = 24000 × 7 + (x – 7) × 12000
⇒ 16x = 24 × 7 + (x – 7) × 12
⇒ 16x = 168 + 12x – 84
⇒ 16x – 12x = 168 – 84
⇒ 4x = 84
⇒ x = $84/4$ = 21

Question : 1
The average monthly income of X and Y is Rs.5050. The average monthly income of Y and Z is Rs.6250 and the average monthly income of X and Z is Rs.5200. The monthly income of X is :
a) Rs.5000
b) Rs.4000
c) Rs.3500
d) Rs.4050
Answer »Answer: (b)
X + Y =Rs.(2 × 5050) =Rs.10100
Y + Z =Rs.(2 × 6250) =Rs.12500
z + x =Rs.(2 × 5200) =Rs.10400
Adding all three,
2 (X + Y + Z) =Rs.(10100 + 12500 + 10400)
=Rs.33000
⇒ X + Y + Z = Rs.16500
∴ X = (X + Y + Z) – (Y + Z)
=Rs.(16500 – 12500) =Rs.4000
Question : 2
The average salary of all the workers in a workshop is Rs.8,000. The average salary of 7 technicians is Rs.12,000 and the average salary of the rest is Rs.6,000. The total number of workers in the workshop is
a) 23
b) 22
c) 21
d) 20
Answer »Answer: (c)
Total workers = x (let)
∴ 7 × 12000 + (x – 7) × 6000 = 8000 x
⇒ 84000 + 6000 x – 42000 = 8000 x
⇒ 8000 x – 6000 x = 42000
⇒ 2000 x = 42000
⇒ x = $42000/2000$ = 21
Question : 3
The average monthly salary of 19 members of a group is Rs. 16000. If one more member whose monthly salary is Rs. 20000 joins the group, then the average salary of the group is
a) Rs. 16250
b) Rs. 18000
c) Rs. 16200
d) Rs. 18250
Answer »Answer: (c)
Required average
=Rs. $({16000 ×19+20000}/20)$
=Rs.$({304000+20000}/20)$
=Rs. $(324000/20)$
=Rs.16200
OR
Difference = Rs. (20000 – 16000) = Rs. 4000
∴ Increase in average = $4000/20$ = Rs. 200
∴ Required average
= Rs. (16000 + 200)
= Rs. 16200
Question : 4
A man spends in 8 months as much as he earns in 6 months. He saves Rs. 6000 in a year. His average monthly income is :
a) Rs. 1800
b) Rs. 2150
c) Rs. 2000
d) Rs. 2400
Answer »Answer: (c)
Let the average monthly income of man be Rs. x.
∴ Man’s annual income = Rs. 12x
∴ Man’s annual expenses
=Rs.$({6x×12}/8)$
=Rs.9x
∴ Savings = 12x – 9x = Rs. 3x
∴ 3x = 6000
⇒ x = $6000/3$ = Rs. 2000
Question : 5
The average monthly income of P and Q is Rs.5, 050. The average monthly income of Q and R is Rs.6, 250 and the average monthly income of P and R is Rs.5,200. The monthly income of P is
a) Rs.5,000
b) Rs.4,050
c) Rs.4,000
d) Rs.3,500
Answer »Answer: (c)
Total monthly income of P and Q = 2 × 5050 =Rs.10100
Total monthly income of Q and R = 2 × 6250 =Rs.12500
Total monthly income of P and R = 2 × 5200 =Rs.10400
On adding all three,
Total monthly income of 2(P + Q + R)
=Rs.(10100 + 12500 + 10400)
=Rs.33000
∴ Total monthly income of (P + Q + R) = $33000/2$
=Rs.16500
∴ P’s monthly income
=Rs.(16500 – 12500)
=Rs.4000
