MOST IMPORTANT verbal reasoning - 3 EXERCISES
Directions:
In these questions, relationship between different elements is shown in the statements. These statements are followed by two conclusions.
The following question based on Coded Inequalities topic of verbal reasoning
Conclusions:I. T < JII. J < Z
(a) Only conclusion II follows.
(b) Either conclusion I or II follows.
(c) Only conclusion I follows.
(d) Neither conclusion I nor II follows.
e) Both conclusions I and II follow
The correct answers to the above question in:
Answer: (c)
Statement: Z > T, T < M, M < J
Therefore, Z > T < M < J (true)
Conclusions:

Directions:
In the following questions, the symbols @, #, %, $ and © are used with the following meaning as illustrated below:
- 'P # Q' means 'P is neither greater than nor equal to Q'.
- 'P © Q' means 'P is neither equal to nor smaller than Q'
- 'P % Q' means 'P is neither smaller than nor greater than Q.
- 'P $ Q' means 'P is not smaller than Q'
- 'P @ Q' means 'P is not greater than Q'.
Now in each of the following questions, assuming the given statements to be true, find which of the three conclusions I, II and III given below them is/are definitely true and give your answer accordingly.
Question : 1
Statements:
R @ D, D © W, B $ W
Conclusions:
I. W # R
II. B © D
III. W $ R
a) Only I is true
b) Only III is true
c) None is true
d) Only either I or III is true
e) All are true
Answer »Answer: (d)
R ≤ D ...(i); D > W ...(ii); B ≥ W ...(iii)
None of the inequations can be combined.
However, either I (W < R) or III (W ≥ R) must be true.
Question : 2
Statements:
H $ V, V % M, K © M
Conclusions:
I. K © V
II. M @ H
III. H © K
a) Only II and III are true
b) Only I and II are true
c) Only I and III are true
d) All are true
e) None of these
Answer »Answer: (b)
H ≥ V ...(i); V = M ...(ii); K > M ...(iii)
Combining these, we get H ≥ V = M < K
Hence K > V and I follows.
Also, M ≤ H and II follows.
But H and K can't be compared. Hence III does not follow.
Question : 3
Statements:
Z # F, R @ F, D © R
Conclusions:
I. Z # R
II. F # D
III. D @ Z
a) Only I is true
b) Only III is true
c) None is true
d) Only either I or III is true
e) All are true
Answer »Answer: (c)
Z < F ...(i); R ≤ F ...(ii); D > R ...(iii)
Clearly, the inequations can't be combined.
Question : 4
Statement:N = P, P < F, F > L, L = K
Conclusions:I. F = KII. F > K
a) Only conclusion II follows.
b) Either conclusion I or II follows.
c) Only conclusion I follows.
d) Neither conclusion I nor II follows.
e) Both conclusions I and II follow
Answer »Answer: (a)
Statement: N = P, P < F, F > L, L = K
Therefore, N = P < F > L = K
Conclusions:
I. F = K (false)
II. F > K (true)
Question : 5
Statement:K < L, K > M, M ≥ N, N > O
Conclusions:I. O < MII. O < K
a) Only conclusion II follows.
b) Either conclusion I or II follows.
c) Only conclusion I follows.
d) Neither conclusion I nor II follows.
e) Both conclusions I and II follow
Answer »Answer: (e)
Statement: K < L, K > M, M ≥ N, N > O
Therefore, K < L > M ≥ N > O
Conclusions:
I. O < M (true)
II. O < K (true)
Question : 6
Statements:Q = Z, C ≥ G, G ≥ Q, Q ≥ R
Conclusions:I. G ≥ ZII. C ≥ R
a) Only conclusion II follows.
b) Either conclusion I or II follows.
c) Only conclusion I follows.
d) Neither conclusion I nor II follows.
e) Both conclusions I and II follow
Answer »Answer: (e)
Statements: Q = Z, C ≥ G, G ≥ Q, Q ≥ R
Therefore, Q=Z, C ≥ G ≥ Q ≥ R
Conclusions:
I. G ≥ Z (true)
II. C ≥ R (true)
