The following question based on SBI PO topic of previous year question answers

Questions : 4 years hence the sum of ages of A and B will be 16 years more than the sum of the present ages of B and C. 4 years ago the sum of A’s age and C’s age was 32 years, then what is the present age of C?

(a) 18 years

(b) 14 years

(c) 10 years

(d) 16 years

e) 12 years

The correct answers to the above question in:

Answer: (d)

According to the question:

Present age of A and C:

A + C = 40 ............(i)

After 4 years, sum of ages of A and B will be 16 years more than the sum of the present ages of B and C.

A + 4 + B + 4 = B + C + 16

A - C = 8 ............(ii)

On solving eq(i) and eq(ii).

2A = 48

A = 24

Then, the present age of C:

24 + C = 40

C = 16 Years

Question : 1

40 men can complete a work in 48 days. If 64 men started working and after X days, 32 more men joined the work. If the remaining work is completed in 16$2/3$ days, then find the value of X.

a) 2

b) 5

c) 8

d) 4

e) 6

Answer: (b)

By MDW formula,

Total work = 48× 40 = 1920 units

Now,

1920 = 64 × X + (64 + 32) × (50/3)

⇒ 1920 = 64X + 1600

⇒ 64X = 320

⇒ X = 5

Question : 2

Cost of gardening the circular field C at Rs.10 per meter square is Rs.3465. Side of the square field S is equals to the diameter of the circular field C. find the perimeter of square field.

a) 108

b) 84 m

c) 78 m

d) 112 m

e) None of these

Answer: (b)

Let r meter be the radius of circular field C, then

Area of circular field C × 10 = 3465

⇒ πr 2 × 10 = 3465

⇒ r 2 = $441/4$

⇒ r = $21/2$ m

Side of square field S = 2 × r = 21m

Perimeter of square field = 4 × 21 = 84 meters

Question : 3

4 years ago, the ratio of ages of A and B was 9 : 11 and 6 years hence, the ratio of ages of A and B will be 7 : 8. Find the present age of B.

a) 22 years

b) 24 years

c) 26 years

d) 37 years

e) None of these

Answer: (c)

Let the ages of A and B be 9X and 11X, then

According to the question:

$\text"9X + 10" / \text"11X + 10"$ =$7/8$

⇒ 72X + 80 = 77X + 70

⇒ X = 2

Hence, the present age of B = 11X + 4 = 22 + 4 = 26 years

Question : 4

The ratio of speed of a boat in still water to speed of the current is 10 : 1. If ratio of the time taken by the boat to travel D km downstream to the time taken to travel (D – 45) km upstream is 3 : 2. Find the value of D.

a) 88

b) 54

c) 110

d) 99

e) 66

Answer: (d)

Let ratio of speed of a boat in still water to speed of the current is 10x : x,

then

$\text"D / ( 10+1 ) x" /\text "D - 45/ ( 10 - 1) x"$=$3/2$

⇒ 18D = 33D – 33 × 45

⇒ 15D = 33 × 45

⇒ D = 99

Question : 5

Train A crosses a vertical pole at the speed of 15 m/s in 20 seconds. Speed of train A is 3 m/s less than the speed of train B and length of train B is 30 meter less than length of train A. Find the time taken by Train B to cross 270 meter long platform.

a) 20 seconds

b) 15 seconds

c) 30 seconds

d) 45 seconds

e) 40 seconds

Answer: (c)

Let the length of Train A be L meters, then

According to question,

$L/15$= 20

⇒ L = 300 m

∴ Length of train A is 300 m

So, length of train B = 300 – 30 m = 270 meters

Speed of train B = 15 + 3 = 18 m/s

When B crosses a 270 m long platform,

Time = $\text"270 + 270"/18$ seconds = 30 seconds

Hence, the required time = 30 seconds.

Question : 6

Cost price of A is twice the cost price of B. If the selling price of B is Rs.3600 and it is sold at the profit of 20%, then find the cost price of A.

a) Rs. 3000

b) Rs. 6000

c) Rs. 8000

d) Rs. 2000

e) Rs. 10000

Answer: (b)

Given, selling price of B = 1.20 × cost price of B

⇒ Cost price of B = 3600 ÷ 1.20 = Rs.3000

According to question,

Cost Price of A = 2 × Cost price of B

Hence, the cost price of A = 2 × Rs.3000 = Rs.6000.
