The following question based on SBI PO topic of previous year question answers

Questions : A started business with Rs. 600 and B with Rs. 900. After 5 months B left and C joined with capital Rs. 600 less than B. If at the end of year profit of C was Rs 3500, then find the total profit at the end of year.

(a) Rs. 46000

(b) Rs. 36000

(c) Rs. 28000

(d) Rs. 23000

e) None of these

The correct answers to the above question in:

Answer: (d)

Ratio of the equivalent capitals of A, B and C for 1 month = 600 × 12 : 900 × 5 : 300 × 7 = 24 : 15 : 7

According to question 7 ≡ Rs. 3500 ⇒ 1 ≡ Rs. 500

The total profit at the end of year = 24 + 15 + 7 = 46 ≡ 46 × Rs. 500 = Rs. 23000

Question : 1

Cost price of A is twice the cost price of B. If the selling price of B is Rs.3600 and it is sold at the profit of 20%, then find the cost price of A.

a) Rs. 3000

b) Rs. 6000

c) Rs. 8000

d) Rs. 2000

e) Rs. 10000

Answer: (b)

Given, selling price of B = 1.20 × cost price of B

⇒ Cost price of B = 3600 ÷ 1.20 = Rs.3000

According to question,

Cost Price of A = 2 × Cost price of B

Hence, the cost price of A = 2 × Rs.3000 = Rs.6000.

Question : 2

Train A crosses a vertical pole at the speed of 15 m/s in 20 seconds. Speed of train A is 3 m/s less than the speed of train B and length of train B is 30 meter less than length of train A. Find the time taken by Train B to cross 270 meter long platform.

a) 20 seconds

b) 15 seconds

c) 30 seconds

d) 45 seconds

e) 40 seconds

Answer: (c)

Let the length of Train A be L meters, then

According to question,

$L/15$= 20

⇒ L = 300 m

∴ Length of train A is 300 m

So, length of train B = 300 – 30 m = 270 meters

Speed of train B = 15 + 3 = 18 m/s

When B crosses a 270 m long platform,

Time = $\text"270 + 270"/18$ seconds = 30 seconds

Hence, the required time = 30 seconds.

Question : 3

The ratio of speed of a boat in still water to speed of the current is 10 : 1. If ratio of the time taken by the boat to travel D km downstream to the time taken to travel (D – 45) km upstream is 3 : 2. Find the value of D.

a) 88

b) 54

c) 110

d) 99

e) 66

Answer: (d)

Let ratio of speed of a boat in still water to speed of the current is 10x : x,

then

$\text"D / ( 10+1 ) x" /\text "D - 45/ ( 10 - 1) x"$=$3/2$

⇒ 18D = 33D – 33 × 45

⇒ 15D = 33 × 45

⇒ D = 99

Directions:

Study the following pie-chart and table carefully to answer the questions that follow.

Percentage of visitors (male and female) in a museum on the given 3 days-Friday, Saturday and Sunday is depicted in the pie chart given below.

The number of female visitors on Friday was what percentage of the number of female visitors on Sunday?

a) 70%

b) 85%

c) 80%

d) 65%

e) 75%

Answer: (e)

Day Male Female Total
Friday 40 60 100
Saturday 70 50 120
Sunday 100 80 180

Required percentage = (60/80) × 100 = 75%.

Question : 5

What is the central angle corresponding to the number of visitors (male and female) on Sunday (in degrees)?

a) 172.8°

b) 165.6°

c) 162°

d) 154°

e) 198°

Answer: (c)

Day Male Female Total
Friday 40 60 100
Saturday 70 50 120
Sunday 100 80 180

Required central angle = (45/100) × 360° = 162°.

Question : 6

Out of the total number of visitors on Saturday, 35% were adults. The cost for 1 adult’s ticket is double that for one child’s ticket. If the total amount collected from selling tickets on Saturday was Rs.8100. What is the cost of 1 adult’s ticket?

a) Rs. 200

b) Rs. 160

c) Rs. 120

d) Rs. 100

e) Rs. 50

Answer: (d)

Day Male Female Total
Friday 40 60 100
Saturday 70 50 120
Sunday 100 80 180

Let cost of 1 adult’s ticket = Rs. 2x, then cost of 1 child’s ticket = Rs. x

According to question

(35% of 120)× 2x + (65% of 120) × x = 8100

⇒ 84x + 78x = 8100

⇒ x = 8100/162 = 50

Hence, cost of 1 adult’s ticket = Rs. 2x = 2× Rs. 50 = Rs.100.
