P, Q, R, S, T and V live on different floors in the same building having its six floors numbered one to six (the ground floor is numbered 1, the floor above it is numbered 2, and so on, till the topmost floor is numbered 6).
Q lives on an even-numbered floor. Only two people live between the floors on which Q and V live. S lives on a floor immediately above the floor on which R lives. S does not live on an odd-numbered floor. P does not live on a floor which is immediately above or immediately below the floor on which T lives. P does not live on the lowermost floor, i.e., floor no. 1.
Question : 6
How many people live on the floors above the floor on which P live?
a) None
b) One
c) Two
d) Three
e) . Cannot be determined
Answer »Answer: (a)
- Q lives on an even-numbered floor.
- Only two people live between the floors on which Q and V live.(There will be 3 cases: Q-6th floor, V- 3rd floor; Q- 4th floor, V-1st floor; Q- 2nd floor, V- 5th floor)
- S lives on a floor immediately above the floor on which R lives.
- S does not live on an odd-numbered floor.( S and R will get their positions in all the three cases)
- P does not live on a floor which is immediately above or immediately below the floor on which T lives. (First two cases eliminated)
- P does not live on the lowermost floor, i.e., floor no. 1.
From the given conditions, we can
- conclude:
Person | Floor |
P | 6 |
V | 5 |
S | 4 |
R | 3 |
Q | 2 |
T | 1 |
Hence P lives on top floor (6th floor) hence no one lives above the floor on which P live.
