a) 6
b) 3
c) 9
d) 2
e) 5
Answer »Answer: (b)
The pattern of the series is

3 ÷ 2 = 1.5
1.5 ÷ 1 = 1.5
1.5 ÷ 1/2 = 3
3 ÷ 1/4 = 12
Question : 3
150, 153, 158, ?, 176, 189

Answer »Answer: (b)
The pattern of the series is
150 + 3 = 153
153 + 5 = 158
158 + 7 = 165
165 + 11 = 176
176 + 13 = 189
Question : 4
Speed of boat is 7.5 times of the speed of the stream. The difference between the downstream and upstream speed is 4 km/hr, then how much distance in upstream will boat cover in 1 hour?
a) 12 km
b) 17 km
c) 21 km
d) 15 km
e) 13 km
Answer »Answer: (e)
Let the speed of the stream = x km/hr, then
Speed of boat = 7.5x km/hr
According to question
(7.5x + x) – (7.5x – x) = 4
⇒ 2x = 4
⇒ x = 2
Hence, the required distance = (7.5x – x) × 1 = 6.5 × 2 = 13 km
Question : 5
There is a 120 litres mixture of milk and water in a jar. The ratio of milk and water in the jar is 5 : 3. If x litres of mixture is taken out, then the difference between milk and water in the jar is 24 litres, then find the value of x.
a) 16
b) 24
c) 18
d) 8
e) 12
Answer »Answer: (b)
In total (5 + 3) = 8 litres mixture, the difference of milk and water = 5 – 3 = 2 litres
In total (120 – x) litres mixture, the difference of milk and water = × (120 – x) = 24 litres
⇒ (120 – x) = 4 × 24
⇒ x = 120 – 96 = 24
Question : 6
If the marked price of an article is 60% above the cost price. The article is sold at 25% discount. If the profit obtained is Rs. 40 then find the marked price of the article.
a) Rs. 320
b) Rs. 240
c) Rs. 200
d) Rs. 300
e) Rs. 360
Answer »Answer: (a)
Let the cost price = 100x, them
Marked price = 160x and Selling price = 160x – 25% of 160x = 160x – 40x = 120x
According to question
120x – 100x ≡ Rs. 40
20x ≡ Rs. 40
Hence, the marked price = 160x ≡ 20x × 8 = Rs. 40 × 8 = Rs. 320
