Answer: (e)
In 60 gms mixture proportion of water
= $60×75/100$ = 45 gms
Total proportion of water in new mixture
= 45 + 15 = 60 gms.
∴Percentage of water = $60/{60+15}×100$ = 80%
The largest and the second largest angles of a triangle are in the ratio of 13 : 12. The smallest angle is 20% of the sum of the largest and the second largest angles. What is the sum of the smallest and the second largest angles ?
Answer: (d)
Smallest angle
= $(13+12)×20/100=5$
∴Ratio of angles = 13 : 12: 5
∴ Sum of smallest and second largest angles
= ${180×(12+5)}/{(13+12+5)} = {180×17}/30$ = 102°
The monthly salary of A, B and C is in the proportion 2 : 3 : 5. If C's monthly salary is Rs.1200 more than A's monthly salary then B's annual salary is
Answer: (a)
Let monthly salaries be 2x, 3x and 5x
∴5x = 2x + 1200⇒3x = 1200
⇒x = 400
∴Monthly salary of B = 1200
∴Annual salary of B = 14400
A, B and C are partners. A receives $2/5$ of the profit and B and C share the remaining profit equally. A's income is increased by Rs.220 when the profit rises from 8% to 10%. Find the capitals invested by A, B and C.
Answer: (d)
For A's share : (10% – 8%) = Rs. 220
∴ 100% = ${220}/2$ × 100 = Rs. 11000
∴ A's capital = Rs. 11000
For B's and C's share : $2/5$ = 11000
∴ $3/5 = {11000}/2$ × 2 = Rs. 16500
∴ B's and C's capitals are Rs. 8250 each.
Present ages of father and son are in the ratio of 6 : 1 respectively. Four years after the ratio of their ages will become 4 : 1 respectively. What is the son's present age?
Answer: (c)
Ages of father & son = x & y
$x/y=6/1 x$ = 6y or
x – 6y = 0 ...(i)
${x+4}/{y+4}=4/1$
x + 4 = 4y + 16
x – 4y = 12 ...(ii)
On equating (i) & (ii), we get y = 6.
