Directions:

Look at the underlined part of each sentence. Below each sentence, three possible situations for the underlined part are given. If one of them (a), (b) or (c) is better than the underlined part, indicate your response on the Answer Sheet against the corresponding letter (a), (b) or (c). If none of the substitutions improves the sentence, indicate (d) as your response on the Answer Sheet. Thus a "No improvement" response will be signified by the letter (d).

As I am tired, I cannot be able to climb this hill now.

Answer: (b)

The person in this sentence is projected to be tired and because of that he will not be able to climb the tree. Option (b) "will not be possible" is not apt here as the sentence shows reluctance of the person more than incapability.

Question :18

He succeeded by dint of hard work.

Answer: (d)

Dint means archaic a blow or stroke. While 'by means of' does not suit when talking about hard work. 'by doing' sounds abrupt. By dint of makes good sense in the sentence as here it means due to efforts of. Hence, no improvement, option (d) .
