The sum of the ages of 5 children born at the intervals of 3 years each is 50 years. What is the age of the youngest child?
Answer: (a)
Let the ages of children be x, (x + 3), (x + 6), (x + 9) and (x + 12) years.
Then, x + (x + 3) + (x + 6) + (x + 9) + (x + 12) = 50
⇔ 5x = 20 ⇔ x = 4.
∴ Age of the youngest child = x = 4 years.
On children's day sweets were to be equally distributed amongst 200 children. But on that particular day 40 children remained absent; hence each child got 2 sweets extra. How many sweets were distributed?
Answer: (d)
$x/200 + 2 = x/{200 - 40} = x/160$
2 = $x/160 - x/200$
2 = ${20x - 16x}/3200 = {4x}/3200$
${2 × 3200}/4 = x = 1600$.
If average of 25 numbers is 30. If each no. decrease by 10. Then find new average of these no.
Answer: (c)
Average =30 – 10 = 20
Mr. Anant Roy, the renowned author, recently got his new novel released. To his utter dismay he found that for the 1,007 pages on an average there were 2 mistakes every page. While, in the first 612 pages there were only 434 mistakes, they seemed to increase for the latter pages. Find the average number of mistakes per page for the remaining pages.
Answer: (b)
Total mistakes = 1007 × 2 = 2014
Let x be average mistake per page for the remaining pages
434 + 395x = 2014
395x = 1580 ⇒ x = 4
In a class of 100 students, there are 70 boys whose average marks in a subject are 75. If the average marks of the complete class is 72, then what is the average marks of the girls ?
Answer: (a)
Total student = 100, Boy = 70, Girls = 30
Boys average = 75
Total marks = 75 × 70 = 5250
Class average = 72
Total class marks = 72 × 100 = 7200
Total marks of girls = ${7200 - 5250}/30 = 1950/30$ = 65
