The following question based on Universe, solar system and Astronomy topic of indian geography mcq
- The Earth does not move along its orbit at a constant rate.
- The Earth moves fastest at perihelion and slowest at aphelion.
(a) Ohm’s law
(b) Newton’s law of gravitation
(c) Newton’s second law of motion
(d) Kepler’s second law
The correct answers to the above question in:
Answer: (d)
Kepler’s second law of planetary motion describes the speed of a planet traveling in an elliptical orbit around the sun. It states that a line between the sun and the planet sweeps equal areas in equal times.
Thus, the speed of the planet increases as it nears the sun and decreases as it recedes from the sun.

Question : 1
Which one of the following statements is correct with reference to our solar system?
a) The Sun contains 75 percent of the mass of the solar system.
b) The diameter of the sun is 190 times that of the Earth.
c) The predominant element in the composition of Earth is silicon.
d) The earth is the densest of all the planets in our solar system.
Answer »Answer: (c)
The Earth is the densest of all the planets in our solar system. The density of the Earth is 5.513 g/cm3. This is an average of all of the material on the planet.

d) Neptune
Answer »Answer: (c)
Question : 4
Consider the following pairs:
- Electromagnetic radiation
- Geothermal energy
- Gravitational force
- Plate movements
- Rotation of the earth
- Revolution of the earth.
a) 2, 4, 5 and 6 only
b) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
c) 1, 3, 5 and 6 only
d) 1, 2, 3 and 4 only
Answer »Answer: (b)
From electromagnetic radiation to the revolution of the earth, everything is responsible for bringing dynamic changes on the surface of the earth. For example,
Electromagnetic radiation brings changes in the field of microwaves, wavelengths of radio, UV rays, infrared rays, X rays, and gamma rays.
Geothermal energy is the heat received from the earth’s core. This heat continuously flows outward. It transfers to the surrounding layers of rock, the mantle. When temperature and pressure become very high some mantle rocks melt becoming magma. It then either comes out as lava or heats up the nearby rocks and water which comes out as hot springs or geysers.
Gravitational force is constantly working on all physical bodies. It is giving weights to objects with mass and causes them to fall to the ground when dropped. Plate movement is a dynamic change on the surface of the earth. It explains many aspects of the interrelationship of volcanoes, earthquakes, climate change, and the evolution of life itself.
Everything about our planet is related either directly or indirectly to plate tectonics. Rotation causes day and night. Revolution causes seasons, change in the length of day and night.
Question : 5
Solar eclipse occurs on
a) Any day
b) Full Moon day (Poornima)
c) New Moon day
d) Quarter Moon day
Answer »Answer: (c)
Question : 6
The asteroids revolve round the Sun in between :
a) Jupiter and Saturn
b) Saturn and Uranus
c) Mars and Jupiter
d) Earth and Mars
Answer »Answer: (c)
Asteroids, sometimes called minor planets, are small, rocky fragments left over from the formation of our solar system about 4.6 billion years ago. Most of this ancient space rubble can be found orbiting the sun between Mars and Jupiter. Asteroids range in size from Ceres, about 952 km (592 miles) in diameter, to bodies that are less than 1 km across.
The total mass of all the asteroids is less than that of Earth’s Moon.
