Question : 1

The largest among the numbers $(0.1)^ 2 , √{0.0121}$ , 0.12 and $√{0.0004}$ is

a) 0.12

b) $?{0 .0004}$

c) $?{0 .0121}$

d) $(0.1)^2$

Answer: (a)

$(0.1)^2$ = 0.01

$√{0.0121} $= $√{0.11×0.11}$= 0.11

$√{0.0004}$ = 0.02

⇒0.01< 0.02 < 0.11 < 0.12

Question : 2

Which of the following fraction is the smallest ? $9/13, 17/26, 28/29, 33/52$

a) 9/13$

b) $28/29$

c) $17/26$

d) $33/52$

Answer: (d)

$9/13 = {9×4}/{13×4} = 36/52$

$ 17/26={17×2}/{26×2} = 34/52 $

$33/52 = 33/52 $

Among these $33/52$ is the smallest

Again, $28/29 = 56/58 > 33/52$

Question : 3

The greatest number among $0.7 + √{0.16}, 1.02 – 0.6/24,$ $1.2 × 0.83 \text" and " √{1.44}$ is :

a) 1.2 × 0.83

b) 1.02 – $0.6/24$.

c) $√1.44$

d) 0.7 + $?0.16$

Answer: (c)

0.7 + $√{0.16}$ = 0.7 + 0.4 = 1.1

1.02 – $0.6/24$ = 1.02 – 0.025

= 0.995

1.2 × 0.83 = 0.996

$√{144}$ = 12

Hence, the greatest number

= $?{144}$

Question : 4

The least number of five digits which has 123 as a factor is

a) 10081

b) 10063

c) 10086

d) 10037

Answer: (c)

The smallest number of 5 digits = 10000

Remainder on dividing 10000 by 123 = 37

∴ Required number = 10000 + (123 – 37) = 10086

Question : 5

When 335 is added to 5A7, the result is 8B2. 8B2 is divisible by 3. What is the largest possible value of A ?

a) 1

b) 4

c) 2

d) 8

Answer: (b)

5A7 + 335 = 8B2

⇒ A → 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 &

B → 5, 6, 7, 8,9

8B2 is exactly divisible by 3.

∴ 8 + B + 2 = multiple of 3

∴ B = 5 or 8 ⇒ A = 1 or 4

Question : 6

The least number among $4/9,√{9/49}$, 0.45 and $(0.8)^2$ is

a) 0.45

b) $(0.8)^2$

c) $√{9/49}$

d) $4/9$

Answer: (c)

Decimal equivalents :

$4/9$ = 0. 4: $√{9/49}$ = $3/7$ = 0.43

0.45 : $(0.8)^2$ = 0.64

∴ Least number = 0.43 = $√{9/49}$
