Question : 1

555 was to be divided among A, B and C in the ratio of 1 4 : 1 5 : 1 6 . But by mistake it was divided in the ratio of 4 : 5 : 6. The amount in excess received by C was

a) 22

b) 52

c) 75

d) 72

Answer: (d)

Case I

A : B : C = $1/4 : 1/5 : 1/6$

= $1/4 × 60 : 1/5 × 60 : 1/6$ × 60

[LCM of 4, 5 and 6 = 60]

= 15 : 12 : 10

Sum of ratios = 15 + 12 + 10 = 37

C’s share

= $10/37$ × 555 = Rs.150

Case II

A : B : C = 4 : 5 : 6

Sum of ratios = 4 + 5 + 6 = 15

C’s share

= $6/15$ × 555 = Rs.222

Required answer

= Rs.(222 - 150) = Rs.72

Question : 2

750 are divided among A, B and C in such a manner that A : B is 5 : 2 and B : C is 7 : 13. What is A’s share ?

a) 140

b) 250

c) 260

d) 350

Answer: (d)

A : B=5 : 2
B : C=7 : 13

A : B : C = 5 × 7 : 7 × 2 : 2 × 13

= 35 : 14 : 26

Sum of the ratios

= 35 + 14 + 26 = 75

A's share

= Rs.$35/75 × 750$ = Rs.350

Question : 3

A sum of 300 is divided among P, Q and R in such a way that Q gets 30 more than P and R gets 60 more than Q. The ratio of their share is

a) 3 : 2 : 5

b) 2 : 5 : 3

c) 2 : 3 : 5

d) 5 : 3 : 2

Answer: (c)

According to question,

P + Q + R = Rs.300

Now, Q = P + 30

R = Q + 60

= P + 30 + 60 = P + 90

Hence, P + Q + R = Rs.300

P + P + 30 + P + 90 = 300

3P + 120 = 300

P = $180/3$ = 60

Share of P = Rs.60,

Q = Rs.90, R = Rs.15

P : Q : R = 60 : 90 : 150

= 6 : 9 : 15 = 2 : 3 : 5

Question : 4

A sum of 1240 is distributed among A, B and C such that the ratio of amount received by A and B is 6 : 5 and that of B and C is 10 : 9 respectively. Find the share of C.

a) 400

b) 630

c) 360

d) 480

Answer: (c)

A : B = 6 : 5, B : C = 10 : 9

A : B : C = 6 : 5
10 : 9
60 : 50 : 45= 12 : 10 : 9
According to the question

(12 + 10 + 9) units ⇒ 1240

9 units = $1240/31 × 9$ = Rs.360

Question : 5

A sum of 86, 700 is to be divided among A, B and C in such a manner that for every rupee that A gets, B gets 90 paise and for every rupee that B gets, C gets 100 paise. B’s share will be

a) 28,000

b) 28, 090

c) 27,000

d) 26, 010

Answer: (c)

When A gets 100 paise, B gets 90 Paise

When B gets 100 paise, C gets 110 paise

When B gets 90 paise, C gets

$110/100 × 90$ = 99 paise

A : B : C = 100 : 90 : 99

Sum of the ratios

= 100 + 90 + 99 = 289

B’ share

= $(90/289 × 86700)$ = Rs.27000

Question : 6

900 is divided among A, B, C; the division is such that 1 2 of A's money = 1 3 of B's money = 1 4 of C's money. Find the amount (in ) received by A, B, C.

a) 200, 300, 400

b) 400, 150, 350

c) 350, 450, 100

d) 300, 400, 200

Answer: (a)

A × $1/2 = B × 1/3 = C × 1/4$

$A/2 = B/3 = C/4$

A : B : C = 2 : 3 : 4

A ⇒ $2/9 × 900$ = Rs.200

B ⇒ $3/9 × 900$ = Rs.300

C ⇒ $4/9 × 900$ = Rs.400
