Number Series Model Questions Set 2 Section-Wise Topic Notes With Detailed Explanation And Example Questions
MOST IMPORTANT quantitative aptitude - 2 EXERCISES
The following question based on Number Series topic of quantitative aptitude
22, 23, 27, 36, 52, 77, ?
(a) 109
(b) 117
(c) 111
(d) 113
e) 115
The correct answers to the above question in:
Answer: (d)
The given number series is based on the following pattern:
22 + $1^2$ = 22 + 1 = 23
23 + $2^2$ = 23 + 4 = 27
27 + $3^2$ = 27 + 9 = 36
36 + $4^2$ = 36 + 16 = 52
52 + $5^2$ = 52 + 25 = 77
∴ ? = 77 + $6^2$
= 77 + 36 = 113

Question : 1
In a class of 110 students, x students take both Mathematics and Statistics, 2x + 20 students take Mathematics and 2x + 30 students take Statistics. There are no students who take neither Mathematics nor Statistics. What is x equal to?
a) 25
b) 20
c) 15
d) 30
Answer »Answer: (b)
n(M) = 2x + 20
n(S) = 2x + 30
n(M ∩ S) = x
n(M ∪ S) = 110
We know that,
n(M ∪ S) = n(M) + n(S) – n(M ∩ S)
⇒ 110 = 2x + 20 + 2x + 30 – x
⇒ 110 = 3x + 50
⇒ 3x = 60
∴ x = 20
Question : 2
If A = {1, 2, 3, 4}, then what is the number of subsets of A with atleast three elements?
a) 5
b) 4
c) 3
d) 10
Answer »Answer: (a)
Given, A = {1, 2, 3, 4}
So, the required subsets are {1, 2, 3}, {1, 2, 4}, {1, 3, 4}, {2, 3, 4}
and {1, 2, 3, 4}
Question : 3
In an examination, 50% of the candidates failed in English, 40% failed in Hindi and 15% failed in both the subjects. The percentage of candidates who passed in both English and Hindi is
a) 60%
b) 25%
c) 20%
d) 75%
Answer »Answer: (b)
Percent of candidates, who failed in either Hindi or English
= (50 + 40 – 15)% = 75%
∴ Percent of candidates who passed in both subject
= 100 – 75 = 25%
Question : 4
What should come in place of the question mark (?) in the following number serie?
16, 24, 36, 54, 81, 121.5, ?
a) 174.85
b) 166.55
c) 182.25
d) 190.65
e) 158.95
Answer »Answer: (c)
The given number series is based on the following pattern:
$16×3/2=8×3=24$
$24×3/2=12×3=36$
$36×3/2=18×3=54$
$54×3/2=81$
$81×3/2=121.5$
∴ ? = 121.5 × $3/2$=182.25
Hence, the number 182.25 will replace the question mark.
Question : 5
What should come in place of the question mark (?) in the following number series?
4000, 2008, 1012, ?, 265, 140.5, 78.25
a) 514
b) 512
c) 506
d) 520
e) None of these
Answer »Answer: (a)
The series is as follows:
÷ 2 + 8
Hence, ? = 1012 ÷ 2 + 8 = 514
Question : 6
What should come in place of the question mark (?) in the following number series?
336, 224, 168, 140, 126, (?)
a) 118
b) 121
c) 119
d) 116
e) None of these
Answer »Answer: (c)
The series is as follows:
– 112, – 56, – 28, – 14, – 7
Hence, ? = 126 – 7 = 119
