Let the length of the rod be x metres.

According to the question,

$x – (x/10 + x/20 + x/30 + x/40 + x/50 + x/60)$ =12.08

$x[1 – ({60 +30 + 20 + 15 + 12 + 10}/600)]$ = 12.08

$x(1 - {147}/600)$ = 12.08

$x({600 - 147}/600)$ = 12.08

$x × 453/600$ = 12.08

$x = {12.08×600}/453$ =16 m.

Let the tin contain x bottles of oil.

As given,

$4/5x – 6 + 4 = 3/4x$

$4/5x – 3/4 x$ = 2

$({16 – 15}/20)x$ = 2

$x/20$ = 2 ⇒ x = 2 × 20 = 40

The tin can contain 40 bottles.

The product of two fractions is $14/15$ and their quotient is $35/24$. The greater of the fractions is

Let the fractions be x and y, where x > y

$xy = 14/15$ and $x/y = 35/24$

$xy × x/ y$ = $14/15× 35/24$

$x^2$ = $49/36$⇒ $x = 7/6$

Let the number be x.

∴ According to question,

$x/5 – x/7$ = 10 ⇒ ${7x – 5x}/35$= 10

⇒ $2/35$= 10

⇒ x = ${10 × 35}/2$= 175
