The correct answers to the above question in:

Answer: (b)

Let the man’s income be Rs.x

According to the question,

x - $x/3 –{2x}/5 – {1x}/5$= 400

or x${(1-1/3-2/5-1/5)}$ =400

or x$({15 – 5 -6 -3}/15)$ = 400

or x ×$1/15$= 400

or x = 15 × 400 = Rs.6000

A man read $2/5$ th of a book on the first day. He read $1/3$ rd more on second day than he read on the first day. 15 pages were left for the third day. The number of pages in the book is

Answer: (b)

Let the number of pages in the book be x.

According to the question,

${2x}/5 +{2x}/5 +{x}/3 ×2/5 + 15 = x$

${4x}/5 +{2x}/15 + 15 = x $

${12x + 2x + 225}/15 = x$

$15x = 14x $+ 225

$15x – 14x = 225$

$x$ = 225

An 85m long rod is divided into two parts. If one part is $2/3$of the other part, then the longer part (in metres) is :

a) 51

b) 85

c) 56 $2/3$

d) 34

Answer: (a)

Let the longer part be x

According to question,

Shortest part = $\text"2x"/3$

x + $2/3$x = 85m

= $\text"3x + 2x"/3$ = 85

= $\text"5x"/3$ = 85

∴ x = 51m

Fraction between $2/5$ and $4/9$ is :

a) $1/2$

b) $4/5$

c) $2/3$

d) $3/7$

Answer: (d)

$2/5$ and $4/9$ = 0.40 and 0.44 Fraction between these two =$3/7$= 0.42
