A course of action is a step or administrative decision to be taken for improvement, follow - up or futher action in regard to the problem, policy, etc. On the basis of information given in the statement, you have to assume everything in the statement to be true and then decide which of the three given suggested courses of action logically follows worth pursuing.

Then, decide which of the alternatives (a), (b), (c), (d) or (e) is correct.

Question : 1

  • Statement:
  • Over 27000 bonded labourers identified and freed are still awaiting rehabilitation.

  • Courses of Action:
  • I. More cases of bonded labourers should be identified.
  • II. Till the proper rehabilitation facilities are available, the bonded labourers should not be freed.
  • III. The impediments in the way of speedy and proper rehabilitation of bonded labourers should be removed.

Only Course of action III provides a feasible and effective course to combat the problem, that impediments in the way of speedy and proper rehabilitation should be removed.

  • If the faculty members also join the strike, there is going to be a serious problem.

  • Courses of Action:
  • I. The faculty members should be persuaded not to go on strike.

A proper course of action would be serving notices to these clubs to behave themselves.

Even police personnel may be deployed but only during the sensitive hours.

  • Statement:
  • Many students of the local school fell ill for the fourth time in a row in the last six months after consuming food prepared by the school canteen.

  • Courses of Action:
  • I. The school management should immediately terminate the contract of the canteen and ask for compensation.
  • II. The school management should advise all the students not a eat food articles from the canteen.
  • III. The owner of the canteen should immediately be arrested for negligence.

a) None follows

b) Only II follows

c) Only III follows

d) Both I and II follow

e) Both II and III follow

Answer: (a)

Courses of action I and III would be too harsh; II is absurd. Efforts should be made to supervise the quality of the food prepared by the canteen.

Question : 5 [U.C.O. Bank (PO) 2008]

  • Statement:
  • Many school buses have fitted CNG kit without observing the safety guidelines properly.
  • This results in some instances of these buses catching fire due to short circuit and endangering the lives of the school children.

  • Courses of Action:
  • I. The regional transport authority should immediately carry out checks of all the school buses fitted with CNG kit.
  • II. The management of all the schools should stop hiring buses fitted with CNG kit.
  • III. The Government should issue a notification banning school buses for the use of CNG kit.

Answer: (a)

Course of action I is the correct course of action.
