Solutions:

Clearly, the only five-letter word is GHOST. So, its code is efnqr. The only seven-letter word is ROUTINE. So, its code is hlonqsx. The two six-letter words are ENOUGH and MASTER and codes are dhpqrs and efhnox.

Clearly, ENOUGH has four common letters E, N, O and U with ROUTINE and the letters h, n, o and x in the code for ROUTINE are common with the code efhnox. So, the code for ENOUGH is efhnox and that for MASTER is dhpqrs. The two four-letter words are HEAD and NOSE and codes are adeh and hnor.

Clearly, NOSE has three common letters N, O and E with ENOUGH and the letters h, n and o in the code for ENOUGH are common with the code hnor. So, the code for NOSE is hnor while that for HEAD is adeh.

Rearranging the words and their codes, we have:

Column I Column II
HEAD adeh
NOSE hnor
GHOST efnqr
ENOUGH efhnox
MASTER dhpqrs
ROUTINE hlonqsx

1. In HEAD and NOSE, the common code letter is h and the common letter is E. So, h stands for E.
2. In HEAD and GHOST, the common code letter is e and the common letter is H. So, e stands for H.
2. In HEAD and MASTER, the common code letter h stands for E. So, the other common code letter d stands for A.
3. In HEAD, the remaining code letter a stands for D. In NOSE and MASTER, the common code letter h stands for E. So, the other common code letter r stands for S.
4. In NOSE and GHOST, the common code letter r stands for S. So, the other common code letter n stands for O.
5. In NOSE, the remaining code letter o stands for N. In GHOST and MASTER, the common code letter r stands for S. So, the other common code letter q stands for T.
Thus, in GHOST, the remaining code letter f stands for G.
In ENOUGH and ROUTINE, the common code letters h, o and n stand for E, N and O respectively. So, the fourth common code letter x stands for U.

In MASTER and ROUTINE, the common code letters q and h stand for T and E respectively. So, the third common code letter s stands for R. Thus, in MASTER, the remaining code letter p stands for M.

In ROUTINE, the remaining code letter l stands for I.

Thus, the information can be summarised as follows:

Code h e d a r n o q f x s p l
Letter E H A D S O N T G U R M I

Answer 1: (a): The code for D is a.

Answer 2: (c): The code for E is h.

Answer 3: (): The code for G is f.

Answer 4: (d): The code for I is l.

Answer 5: (d): The code for M is p.

Answer 6: (b) : The code for O is n.

Answer 7: (c): The code for R is s.

Answer 8: (a): The code for S is r.

Answer 9: (d): The code for T is q.

Answer 10: (c): The code for U is x.
